Hi does anyone here run a zz383 425hp stroker with a kodiak 3 stage pump? Any noticable gains with speed, pump spinning out because of more hp? any info will be appreciated!

Will be changing out my 350 to a 383 in the next few weeks, so it will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Got the engine in and runs great its just the engine temp that worries me it is running at 200-220 degrees, it has a 160 degree thermostat now. Heat exchanger is clean and no tubes plugged, lots of anti-freeze, water pump is good.........Is it normal for this engine to run at this temp?

I have been running a 383 for almost four years, i have freshwater cooling mind you but even with the temperature sender right in the cylinder head i usually run 185 - 190 all day long. 220 seems a bit warm to me but if the probe is near the cylinder head it would be warmer than up @ the thermostat, is what i have seen. is it 220 even when crusing, or just warms up at idle ?

Is this a carburated engine? Mabey its running lean ? yea my crusing speed is only 3200 rpm as well, but im running a berkely with and AA impeller not sure what the kodiak pump is like, but there should be reduced engine effort if your same pump was driven by a 350 first now a 383, with the longer stroke. Did you swap all the induction system from the 350 to the 383?

Yes it is carbed and everything from the 350 swapped over onto the 383, going to try a richer setting like you mentioned tomorrow, maybe my timing is off also, we set it at 14 degrees before tdc. I was told that maybe try 10 degrees at 650 rpm so will try this also. Man there is a lot of torque, (a huge
difference between the kodiak 350 and the 383), in what little time i had it out!

i bought a zz 383 for my eagle which had a kodiak two stage, it was very impressive until i broke a rod and destroyed the whole engine, had 10 hours on it. GM refused to cover it under warrenty because i pulled the oil pan and heads off to take a look.

the first thing I would check would be the thermostat, maybe it's faulty, try removing it all together, and see where you run at, if its ok its your therm, if not its a blockage somewhere, are the gaskets under the heads correct and not blocking the water pathways, etc etc
