Itsworthit , with the gps systems now , don't think the policing would be any more trouble than having someone to check them after the heat . a trucker friend tells me he can't have a good fart anymore without his dispatcher knowing how long it lasted with the system in has to run in his truck !!! the shitty thing with a speed limit would have to be trying to catch up to somebody if say the limit was 90 and you got to eyeball a speedo cause your boat has 95 in it Evil or Very Mad

Missbhaven , the 383-425 has a cast piston . to get the speed people are talking here , i think your going need at least 500 hp to get into the 90's

in the nz class(r1) witch im setting my boat up for,
about 450 plus hp,a hamilton 743 to get outa the hole fast,
a deep v hull to cut choppy water and hook corners.
i think it wont do any more that 75 mph ,and that would be if im lucky,
tell me if you think it would do more or less????
but my point,
its cheep to build, about 15k all up nzd.
and id refine it to handle better if its to fast for class, testing with gps,

I don't think that a speed limit class is the right way to go at all.It takes a.way from the teams that burn up the midnight oil, spending countless hours testing and retesting chasing that extra half mile an hour.that is dedication and genuine love for the sport.i think that a speed limit class would just be mayhem,to many variables.Engine restrictions is the way it outta stay.Does nascar,Indy, offshore or sprint have a speed limit class!?just my opinion!

when in doubt,hammer down!

does U , A , or B class have a speed limit ? not trying to sell it thought i'd mention it here for some discusion . i agree that if your going get a class thats fast and affordable ( if that's possible) you need engine restrictions . getting people to agree on what everybody will all run seems to be the problem . doesn't look like too many are interested in spending 25-30 for a C class engine , maybe it's needs a couple more easy to tech restrictions like flat tops only and 400 lbs. open valve springs ? Top Dawg's idea of a spec built 500HP AMS sbc that everybody runs is a good idea . or the GM 502-502 ?

This topic seems to come up every few years and it always end up the same way. There is no way to monitor the speeds of each boat economically and accurately. It ain't going to happen Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes It is tough enough to get the daily times together and teching engines as it is. The engines are the only common denominator that levels the field and the rest lays in the hands of the crew and driver to make it all come together.

Your right there , a 100 MPH crate class would work with the right engines, I wonder if AMS could make a crate motor lets say 500hp small block for 10K. That should get a few more MPH out of some boats and would be available, but the engine would have to come only from him. Just an Idea, if everyone sat down and agreed on a price then AMS could tell us what he can build for that and go from there.

so anybody sooner have a 500hp sb than a 502 ???? Dawg guessing it would be 15K carb to pan 400sbc .

This ain't happening ever!
GM builds the motor.
As much Louie would love this idea,,, It ain't happening,,, ever.
There is NO way you are going to get 10 guys standing in one room to say " This is the motor we use" NO WAY EVER. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
Good luck on this one. Confused Confused

it bad enough that we can get speeding tickets for speeding in town, highway, school zone, construction zone, the sky is blue zone. We keep our speeds in check all over the place for good reasons, when we race that is the last thing that we want to do is get a ticket(penalty for going to fast) My .02

allblowdup , idea wasn't to give competitive boats tickets or DNF's . was to get some otherwise retired boats out and someplace for maybe a 502 boat to run until a class gets started and figured out . Hines , i guess it wouldn't be racing having a group of boats bunched up heading up river to the bridge in Whitecourt until the battle for the line into the channel , then it would be fukking exciting for the driver , nav. and the fan's watching .

I know it's an old post, has boat racing ever used restricter plates ?
That would surely level the playing field.
I'm new to the race side of things and I'm glad there's an class that I can start off with that's cheaper than a new truck.
