Obviously speed is one of the biggest up sides to having a tunnel as a personal boat. But what are the down sides, the only time I've been in a tunnel was while a friend was testing his FX boat. So my exposure is very limited. Not really in the market for a new boat this year but if mine suffers the same damage this year as it did last year I will be in the market.

Back to the point, I'm curious what the up's and down's are to owning a tunnel vrs a step tech.

Tunnels ride better, but on the flip side they really suck in tight back channels. And if you don't happen to make it hopr you have alot of friends. LOL.

Step Tech / Vee:

Down: Less Speed
Up: Bigger load capacity; You can turn tighter corners; Handles well and does not crack or unweld on big waves/bumpy water; Gets on plane easier; Sturdier construction.

Tunnel:

Up: More Speed and smooth ride on flat water
Down: Less load capacity; Very unstable and unpredictable on rough water; harder to get on plane; and the hull is more fragile; hard to do tight corners.

That is an oxymoron "Pleasure Tunnel".
Tunnel boats run flat, grabby, easy to hook at anything under 65 mph.
They need some good water to get going out of the hole. At half step, the nose is up in the air and you can't see shit in front of you.
Of course, if you buy for a lake or big rivers, then it might be a fair boat.
The 19' stepped V hull is the ticket for anything up to 90 mph. By far, the best hull for all around boating.

Thanks for the input,
Considering I can't keep my 16' V out of trouble a tunnel would be the wrong way to go.

Helpful Doc, Really cleared things up.
I seen the Koscorp 286 being pulled through GP yesterday.
Looking for open water???

Baldys right on the tunnel issue. If you want to run wide open all day and can afford the gas, buy a tunnel. IF you want to do anything else stick to a v hull.
