having seen some of you all's western rivers up close and personal like. i must say they are fairly pristine.. but this litter problem does not just stop in your area.. it is a nation wide problem this we can all agree on.
i fish and play in water so muddy that it looks like creamed coffee-we call it CLEAR btw-the litter is disgusting to say the least. the company that operates the hydro electric dams fluctuates the water as needed.. this causes the water level to rise and lower. floating all the "nasty" out into the lake body it self..as a boater your choices are simple dodge the big stuff and wack the lil stuff... trust me i have seen it all floating down the lake..

I think most of the boaters are on the same page. Believe me, we have the same problems in the U.S.. We are trying to get a group together here on the Willamette river to clean up an area designated to each one of the regular boaters. Most of these floaters we encounter are college kids and they don't seem to be as bad as the ones you are having problems with. The biggest problems some of the college girls have is they come very poor families and cannot afford the tops to their swimming attire. I am personally going to try to help them out this year.
We have the major problems with the bank scum who decide to have a barbecue and leave all their shit on the bank or throw it in the river.
Oregon has a bottle bill where they get a deposit back and this is certainly a good thing. I was against the bill when it passed, It has been a nickel return, and recently raised to 10 cents I believe, effective 1/1/08.
This also keeps these same idiots from tossing them out on the roadsides,
and you can see the difference in roadside garbage in our neighboring states that do not have the bottle bill. My1.5 cents worth _________________ albany race director/3rd week of august |
