Hi People;
I would like to thank James Laughlin for supporting this event and others who participated and others all though (not many) must be the price of gas or something?
Anyway I am writing this while nursing pneumonia. We got marooned Embarassed (read stuck) my inexperience allowed me to take a wrong channel.

Once committed, I couldn't turn the boat around. What looked to me to be the main channel, wasn't! when in doubt pin it so i did, I made it up this channel pumping rocks ,trees , fish, ( sorry baldy) and other non aquatic debris. Laughing

I got as far as 25 feet from the main channel, and here's this huge mother of a tree 2 ft in dia blocking the entrance Evil or Very Mad No choice I had to pull back. Now, here we are planted in 4 inches of water a quarter mile up the wrong channel.

We worked for 2 and 1/2 hours moving that boat back down till both of us were exhausted, and this old fart is ten minutes from having a third heart attack Rolling Eyes in water that was so cold it was like some one took a blow torch to my legs.

My Buddy is on the Island (sort of) when along comes another boat.
Jim and his wife ( never did get their last names) they jump in the water, and with the four of us we got out Very Happy
I f it had not been for these two people, my buddy and I would have been buzzard feed. I love both of them!
What could have turned out to be a nightmare, turned out to be a good time ( I think Laughing )
The point of this story is, don't be like the A/H I am and be prepared Embarassed
I got in a hurry and got too excited.
James, if you read this and know those two people I would like to thank them again.
No Pictures Rolling Eyes darnit

Glad to hear everything turned out good for you Rapidchaser. It's not a good thought to be in that situation and not knowing if anyone is coming to help.
How was the turn out? I wanted to go but had to work this weekend...blabber.

Where is everyone going for the long weekend? I'm off and looking for boating buddies.

Hey Dano;
Turnout was less than what was expected from my pint of view, but I think it was OK for everyone who was there.

As for me this weekend I'm going to be a pussy and take the family and boat out to Buffalo Lake.
Maybe suck back on a bottle of Lemon Heart or a beer or nine Laughing

If I don't go on this one the rest of my river trips will include a lot of yapping, hot tongue and cold shoulder Laughing

I'm working on my emergency kit for the boat. Two 2x4's and some extra brain cells.

Rapid:

You just have to hate those "commitment type" situations where things don't come together.......but they usually build character and friendships Mr. Green !
Sorry that I was unable to attend with my chainsaw winch to ease your heart stress Sad

Thanks Skinny;
Don't put the chain saw winch away, looks like I'll probably have a chance
at a few more heart attacks before the season's out. Laughing Wink

I'm kind of hoping that I will only need it for pulling game off the riverbank to the boat. Luckily it has not been used to pull a boat .....YET Wink !!

We should have 2 way communication between boats on these rallies like they do in the States. Especially with the side channels that we have, it would be nice to cry for help Surprised when needed. I noticed at the last rally I attended that it was very easy to break away from the pack without anyone being aware of where you were Crying or Very sad .
I know that it will never happen but it would be a great idea Cool .

There was five other boats on the river.
I let every one go ahead up river because I hadn't fired the boat up since doing a bunch of servicing. I didn't want to hold anyone up at the launch
which I think was 45 degrees to the river up hill? very fast water and this launch hits it straight on Rolling Eyes

Very bad design, you would think they would have angled it down river?
You couldn't angle the trailer.

Anyway we were supposed to meet at a tributary just past the Nordeg
bridge (forestry trunk road) never did find anyone Sad

The people that came to our rescue also got stuck up by the Little Big Horn
Dam. They managed to get all the way to the dam and back.

They had an Eagle boat with a 175 S/J . I sure do have a lot more respect for those S/J's but can't stand the sound of them Laughing

That river,(in my opinion), was in flood and it looked like there were more rivers than there should have been Laughing

When I get back from Prison ( Buffalo Lake) I'm gonna run her again only this time I'm gonna launch in Edmonton and do the stretch to the dam.
If I get stuck again, the animals will have a little snack Laughing

Dang boys, I'd would have been there but I am still waiting for my motor to return from the hospital. Waiting on heads.
Anyways, The old saying of "when in doubt, pin her" will work when you are young and full of energy. Later on through, you'll slowdown and turn out before you get in deep!! I think everyone goes through that but you get very tired of pushing boats.
This was a direct result of the "when in doubt" theory.
I'll be out for the next get together.

The whitecourt crew couldnt make it. We all had to work at the trade fair in whitecourt. Pretty good turnout, made a little money for the club.

This is a very good idea Skinnydipper. My bride bought 2 el-chepo two-way radios for boating with buddies. We tried them out in the vehicles but not on the water yet. They have a range of about 1/2 to 3/4 mile only. I guess that's better than nothing.

Thought about installing a CB in the boat but I don't know how that would work? Rolling Eyes
At one time many, many, moons ago this got me out of trouble.
On the other hand my mouth got me "into" some Twisted Evil Laughing

I tried those COBRA radio's in boat's and it seemed to be too noisy in both boats to really understand anything.

Ya I think the ones we have are Cobra. I'll check when I get home. You may not be able to use them when running but if your buddy is up a channel with the engine off you could run on the main channel, shut the engine off and call. Might be worth something.

I also have a portable Kenwood witch has about 50-60 km range. Not cheap though. I paid $500 used. It's programmable to any frequency.
