I ran the section between Mission bridge and Harrison River mouth just east of Chilliwack last fall during a fishing trip. Pretty basic in this area. Some skinny side channels but the main channel has lots of water. There are lots of boats out there (mostly fishing guides) so you can follow their path or at least feel comforted knowing that there is help in a desperate situation. _________________ 17' Firefish Frenzy, 200 opti, 8 degree rock chewin' bottom. Fraser River is big water especially at peak. Conditions vary from deep and wide to flat and braided to Islands , channels and narrow canyons with dangerous rapids and eddies. And that is just in the 40 miles or so that I have boated around P.G. Has lots to offer but you need to use respect , best to talk to locals in the area you plan to explore. _________________ Rick's Precision Machine

Thanks guys, our plan at this time is to put in somewere west of Jasper, say Moose lake or so and then to run the whole river (as much of the 1350 klm as possible) to Vancouver. Have been planning for a while and still need to gather some more info. Could possibly meet up with some fellow river runners in some areas. _________________ never criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes - then when you do criticize them you will be a mile away and have their shoes |

That's a long run. Better do lot's of research on the elevation drop in regards to rapids and falls. _________________ Life is Great. It's Reality that Sucks! |

We put in at the Terricana Lodge....a riverbank launch The Terricana is about maybe 20 miles UPSTREAM of McBride, which is around 1.5 hours from Jasper. We wanted to go upstream of the Terricana Resort, but it was not boat friendly. Too narrow, and lots of can opener type rocks.....I would recommend getting friendly with the Terricana Lodge people, and launching where we did..Or maybe in McBride.....downstream from there you are fine. The current was around 10kph in July, and easy boating.....We LOVED our trip. River camped and fished....lots of wildlife, fishin sucked though. We did not entertain a trip all the way to the coast via the Fraser, not that it's not possible but it is a long way. |
