Yup hockey is business , anyone involved with minor hockey will tell you it's there too . Didn't watch any of coverage of the Smith deal only what I heard on the radio and I'am sure I miss alot of what you guys in Alberta hear being out in B.C. . Smitty not an allstar ? Give your head a shake , any player that can spit out a row of chiclets and come back and help win the game is a hero and an allstar not somebody who fakes tears for the media Want hockey without politics and big business , better head over to the outdoor pick-up rink _________________ Rick's Precision Machine

Well, I gave my head a shake and........nope, he's still not an All-Star. One "Tough Mother Fu#%er" yes! I think if anything it's a huge wakeup call for the rest of the team. |

Call him what you want...All star, hero, leader but what it really come's down to is that he was THE best Oiler in my eye's.The club has a habit of ditching there top players and keeping alot of the non-producers.Why is it that Dalllas,Colorado and Pittsburgh always have a minimum of three hot players. We get one, and they don't make it the season or they get rid of him for un-proven player's.I don't know all the details about the trade but there's lot's of talk about money and that we have a chance to re-obtain him.I guess if he really wanted to stay he probably could have. That's all I have to say bout that.....CL |

By the looks of that avatar R.C. it's a good thing you and Kevin Lowe didn't cross paths last week eh ! . After watching H.N.I.C. last night and getting all the details , I now think K. Lowe did what any savvy G.M. should have done. 5.4 mil. was a generous and fair offer and Ryan should have taken it before the trade deadline if he wanted to stay in Edmonton. Too bad there is so much money in sports , he will no doubt get offered more in N.Y. or somewhere else in the U.S. _________________ Rick's Precision Machine

Well, Ive had my cooling down period and decided to stay with my team
for another season
Going back to what the Bald Man and Itsworthit it said , I certainly understand the necessity to generate revenue in business, but they are greedy indeed!
The thing is, I'm not looking at it from this view. I'm a fan and I'm
paying "too much" to enjoy the sport. Hell you can't follow your
favorite players as a team for much more than a couple of seasons
because of the all mighty dollar.
They change players as often as I change my shorts (except in emergency's) either way!
My comment about a player not being Worth the kind of money that's
going around still stands. The NHL has let this get completely out of control, as "they are".
The "Great One" was exactly that, an outstanding player to say the least, but lets not forget that it was the players of the Oilers in that era that helped make him great! by his own admission.
In my view the NHL has turned this great "Canadian Sport" into what should be called the great spin off to the WWE
I still love the game but I absolutely detest the way the governing bodies of the NHL are handling it from a fans point of view!
As far as the tear jerking goes, gimme a break!? I don't buy it from any of them.
Geez maybe I need some more cooling down, that's all, going for the fridge!!!! _________________ FORD=Power for the thrills of life!

Now look at them, the team is dropping like an anvil from the clouds. They dont have ANY drive to get into the post season, thus LOSING MORE MONEY - business eh? I dont think so...........
Best idea, call up Shcremp and get him some playing time, and sell the hotshot in the off season for a person/s worth 4-6 mill so we can stop the madness of chasing 8th place EVERY YEAR!
What a MESS! <---- Get it!

Ole DOC is always the voice of reason when we lose control of our emotions on these type of subjects.
He's right, they did do real good last year, fluke or not they were SO close. Can't get any closeer in fact.
DOC, It's just a real corksucker that every time we (they) raise a player to "star" status they want to leave. Why is that?
Something is not right. Maybe these guys just want to see some big city lights and get out of the frozen north. They've all seen that if they are hockey players. |
