I was talking to Kelly D last night and he was saying that his brother in-law works for Fish & Wildlife. They received a "free" boat a few years back from Eagle Marine and Eagle Boat (Doug & Rob). The problem is, they don't have a budget to operate it. Any gas they put in it is paid for by the guys that are taking it out that day. I think we should try to raise some cash for them to be able to go out and run this boat. They could be a real asset on weekends when the punks are out there chucking beer cans in the river. The boat is also leaking a bit and needs a little work (again no money).
What say we do a boat rally in the spring and get these guys boating again.

Edited by the bald one; Bad Idea. I was drunk when Kelly and I talked about it and it seemed fine then!!

The Alberta government is out of money and can't afford boat gas.
Sorry Baldy the last thing I am interested in is an a fund raiser for the government.

I have had my boat in the water for search an rescue and the RCMP even taken Fish an Wildlife officers for a ride. We as a group will always have boats available for use when needed. This is without any guarantee of repair or costs for wear and tear.

I have seen Fish and Wildlife rent boats for patrol.

The problem is that riverboats are a hole in the water to pour money into and no matter how much we as a group or corporations give them, there will never be enough. Non owner operated boats may as well be in a demolition derby.

They have proven this by not being able to keep "free" boat going.

The answer as I see it is to have a list of boats and equipment available to F&W, S&R, RCMP, Sustainable Resources and fire depts.

Along with this there has to be a guarantee that repairs and that costs will be be covered.

There are many worthwhile charities out there but the Government of Alberta is not one of them.

I would be in favor of a charity Poker rally. It would be a great reason to get together.

I guess if you put it that way, you're right.
The government does have a bunch of my money too.
I'd just like to see some of the morons that are littering the shit out of the river get tickets.

Lets not lose these thoughts.
With the increased interest in CARBA and the need for "some" law enforcement on the rivers I think we can make some positive things happen.
We can enhance our presence in the public eye and in the long run protect our access to the rivers we run.

Shallow:

I'd have to agree with you on this matter. People that don't regularly operate jetboats are even much less likely to maintain them. I heard the same story about this donated boat;really sad Crying or Very sad .
I worked for a short time in the F&W office in Rocky and understand to a greater degree, the use of alot of the off-road equipment and it's lack of maintenance. Combine that with half-dozen different operators and it's a dust collector.
Count me in for the volunteer opportunities, it's a great idea. We'll just have to ensure that all enforcement passengers have helmets and neck braces.........hey Xero Laughing Twisted Evil ??

Volunteer to clean up our rivers and help get rid of the litter bugs of sounds like a good plan. A good club project

I'll have to agree with the common thought that the Gov all ready has enough of my HARD EARNED (ha) money that would be better spent on my boat than theirs.

Every now and then, I'll have vapor lock in the lower part of my brain and I get these ideas that seem real good at the time, only to have them become not so good ideas the next day Embarassed . Does this happen to other people when they drink rum?

Looks like me in the 70s. Also a bad idea in retrospect. I can do the classic bad idea while sober, doesn't take any additives! Add rum or other beverages and then the bad ideas tend to involve things like explosives, sentences that start with "I've got an idea! Here, hold my drink for a second." and devices that launch projectiles. Truly though, the best ones are the "Grand Vision" as abetted by things like rum.

Ha ha! Laughing

Points for your heart being in the right place though.

Jesse,

I'm sure those sentences would include my personal favorite,"Hey guys watch this".

As soon as we get a boat launch installed at the new park in Rocky we could have "charity" poker rally.
This could include the usual trip up the river and the "just hold my drink" and the ever popular "Coleman lantern kicking" events. All of which could be helped out by a serious round of blender racing.[After the days boating of course]
