If it meant 10 mph then no question about it. I would spend more time drip drying for sure.

Heres my 2 cents worth, i have a 17 sport, a 96 outlaw model, with a 383 that turns an A impeller at 5100 rpm. It will do 72 mph downstream at whitecourt and will not go any faster because the boat starts porpoising. It doesnt matter what i do i cant get past that porpoising. I think its an intake problem. I solved the speed problem, I bought a race boat. If all you want to do is go fast, buy a tunnel. If you design a intake grate for speed, they dont come out of the hole very good. I still use an aluminum impeller, i probably shouldnt, but it hasnt blowed up yet. Good luck.

my comments on the aluminum were mainly from a rock pumping point of view. i know all too well what rocks and gravel bashing do to an alum impeller
(thrust bearing also failed but look at the blades etc)
Cheers

again the wear ring area was due to the thrust bearing failing but the blades on an alum impeller just won't stand up to much rock bashing. I wouldn't think for 2 seconds about worrying about anything else to correct for cavitation before i was certain my blades were in good shape and for that condition to remain for any length of time in shallow/rocky places they must be SS
IMHO
Cheers

I have to agree with doc if you want to go fast run a light boat and lots of power or you can put more power to the one you got , you can tweak and Fidel till the cows come home and you may get more speed but will 2,4, miles per hour really make a difference unless you are running wide open all the time you probably wont notice it , add 100 hp that you will notice
But this is only my opinion and I am not a trained professional .

Well I guess I screwed up then. I thought that a ZZ4 powered 16' would be fast enough to feed that bug and still be nimble and light enough to go disturb some fish habitats, I mean would make a descent adventure boat. I guess I shoud have bought a 15' sport jet and a tunnel. Can't see 2 boats in my future any time soon, hardly have enough time to use one. So I'll stick to pissing and moaning that it ain't fast enough. Hopefully by next spring I will have had time to build a more powerful mill. Blue Oval of course. Thanks for all the input.

The only real place for a 460ci Ford engine is in a 1976 Dodge truck. I present you all the "Fodge".

Aluminum impellers should be thrown in the trash, get serious with your boats, and run stainless, everybody spends tons of time doing all sorts of things to go faster, get more water in the suction piece, more power and so on, and then still run an aluminum impeller......why? when you pump a few rocks, what does the pumping? when a blade comes apart from a rock going thru, and you are way up a river, not fun. as far as blowing out the side of a bowl, there is a way more chance of an aluminum impeller coming apart than a stainless, aluminum belongs on a lake in a glass boat
