This talk about starters got me thinking.....What do you bring on the water for spare part's?It seems no matter what you have you'll alway's need something elsel.I'm learning as I'm going and packing what I can afford for now.
Spare starter
Complete oil change
All-thread
ATF(Placement diverter)-The first time I needed this,I asked a couple of guys I was with, and the look I got....
4L 50/50 Antifreeze and spare HTR hose w/clamps
Multi meter
Fuse's/Stakons/12ga wire
Tools
Cap/Rotor/plugs
Spare fittings and line for diverter & Cylinder
Belts
12 ga DEFENDER
Overnight gear
I know I should also have an alternator and some internal distributor part's also, but in due time.My most common of course is the starter and also the diverter fittings.I've run without the diverter about 3-4 times due to being un-repairable on the water.(just hard to steer)-CL |

Mainly a bear scare, but it's doubled as a chainsaw after a few drinks. |

Broke a steering cable one time and took turns sitting on the transit and steering the nozzle with our feet.
By the time we got back to the trailer we were both certified in the art of extreme steering.
If you gotta carry all that stuff and no beer, your set-up preparation SUCKS ! _________________ I refuse to join a group that would allow a person like me to be a member. |

Maybe a couple of tubes of silicon and some duct/helicopter tape. Depends on how nutty you drive, might let you plug a hole enough to get back you back to the trailer.
AR, riding with a friend in his new plastic jetboat back in the day, the roll pin sheared in the Berk nozzle steering shaft. Not a big deal except we were just above the buoy line at Savage Rapids dam on the Rogue. Shut off motor, aim nozzle, start it and go until it cocked sideways. repeat until we got to the bank and tied it up. No tools on board, no oar, not even a stick! We wrapped rope around and around the nozzle to hold it straight, aimed boat, ran until it was off course, stopped, hand paddled it straight and took off again. It worked, got us back to the ramp. _________________ -Jesse |

Don't forget the manual operated bilge pump. I bought one from Walmart for 10 bucks and it works like a bicycle pump. Put one end in the water and the other out the boat. Seems like leaks and broken bilge pumps go hand in hand...... _________________ Merv... |

That's a good idea.I didn't really plan on bringing a spare pump but that's one thing a guy should look into.My idea was to buy an auto bilge pump and add that beside or oppisite to the switched one.Sounds like a few guy's don't go along ways for a fair amount of time.Or just have alot of faith in their equipment I was initally curious just looking for idea's/input or maybe a breakdown/gothome story and that's exactly what I got.Thank you for all the input and if you breakdown this summer and needed something that wasn't mentioned.......Let me know!! -CL |
