I don't know anybody that does this in the red deer area. I got hooked on it by friends on the Smoky. And ended up buying a boat. So I'm looking for info on were a rookie should put in and which way to go. Just till I start to get a feel for reading the local rivers. Just don't want my first couple of outings to be a nightmare.

There are plenty of guys around here that are running the Red Deer river. There is a launch up by the Penhold bridge (private one). Try to avoid putting in at Red Deer at this time of year as there is a nasty rock garden thru RD and a new guy will not have a good time going thru it. Ask some of the guys at Outlaw when they are going out and I'm sure they will take you along or give you some phone numbers of us. Just a word of caution, the river is farely low right now, so be careful. As far as which way to go,,,,,,,, go up stream until you get comfortable driving and you know your is dependable. Reason, you can always float back down to the trailer.

Well i may not be the best guy to help you get to know the area (seeing as I currently live in Toronto)but if you need a willing navigator/pusher let me know. I'll be living in the area very shortly and won't have a good adventure boat other than my tunnel this season(i do consider it an "adventure boat" at this stage but it may have some issues with the Upper Red haha)

Lemme know if you need some company on tour, can bring beer Wink

There is always the North Saskatchewan at Rocky, if the Red is too low, its a good place to start, easy going from town, or braided up by Nordegg, or the clearwater, but probably not good for your first few trips

How about up to the dam at the Brazeau?

I would recommend the North Sask for a few trips before you venture to far up the Clearwater.

Haha nope no 'accidents' in the boat but Dale knows what he's doing. Or at least leads one to belive he does. There was that one log tho come to think of it....hehe

We ran the Lower Sask and it actually had alot of nice side channles to play in. I'll be putting together more video once im settled in but Im going crazy tryin to get sorted for this move, Ive acumulated waaay too many car parts etc over the years haha

Didn't run the Upper Sask but heard its awesome too

Yes it is possible to go to Drayton, and up to the dam from the mouth of the Brazeau. There is usually a poker run in early September, camp at #39 and go down to the Braz. you can go above the dam, an up the Braz. across the trunk road , but you shuold follow someone the first time
