Wondering if anyone knows how well a 17ft stepteck with a 240 sportjet would be for dragging inflatables around? If its not a horribly bad idea any suggestions on good spot or hardware to use for the towrope hookup thanks
IMHO... Axial flow pumps (like a Sportjet) are better for towing than mixed flow pumps. They work great at getting the boat going when loaded down, and as when towing either people or a disabled boat. The 17 Step is a light boat so the transom does get moved by the ropes side forces a bit. The pump creates more of an aerated center wake than a prop does, so tube riders may like a longer tow rope. Weight in the boat matters. Ideally you want to minimize the weight in the back. A full fuel tank and several heavily proportioned adults in the back seat will make it hard to get the nose to drop when trying to get on step.
Biggest issue is; don't let the rope get sucked into the intake. That will ruin your day.
