I have an SD309 that leaks water out the forward weep hole when static and at cruise RPM. I'm wondering what the easiest route is for replacement. Motor and pump removed or can a guy work with just the motor removed ? Boat is a 2004 E6 with a kodiak 350. Bell housing that mounts to the front of the pump.
Thanks in advance.

Just did mine 2 weeks ago. Four bolts and the wiring harness disconnected and lifted the motor up and over enough to change the seal. Used an engine lift and didn't remove the motor completely out of the hull. Took about 5 hours with no help....other then the wife as a safety number. |

You can sometimes get away with replacing just the carbon back part of the seal;remove impeller;pull cotter pin;pull spring and carbon face of seal out;check ceramic face still on shaft for damage;if it is ok slide new carbon on shaft (use antifreeze to lube where it slides on shaft) and put back together.Cross fingers and test run. |
