Hello everyone, I am in the market for a new fish finder for my Nahanni. I will be 75% of the time on rivers with it. I would like some opinions on what I should buy and why. It definately has to have GPS and I really like the down image option. What does everyone think? |

I got a new hummin bird helix 5 GPS with side imaging and down imaging...got it for Christmas and itching to put it in here soon! I had one with down imaging, but was a grey scale screen, was cool but not much for detail. The helix series are all LCD screen, can get a 5" screen all the way up to a 12" (basically a TV). All depends how much room you have to mount it I guess. But one thing I would recommend is the side imaging. From all the videos I've seen and research I've done on the Helix is who will project 240 some feet on either side of your boat and paint a picture of the bottom including the water column. I'm wanting to test it out on the river, just see how far it will project because a lake is way different than a river lol who knows, it May project all the way across the river and you may have a whole picture on where the holes are and exactly where the fish are. Then again it may be a complete fail on the river. Time will tell I guess once I get it all installed into the Boat. But side imaging, definitely something to look into _________________ Rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with my boat on the ROCKS! |

The GPS unit we use (Outlaw Eagle Manufacturing) is the Lowrance HDS-7 Gen 3.
We use a transom mount transducer that can swivel up out of the way if you want to run in shallow water.
If you want more information on that or have any other questions, you're welcome to call Bernie (403)347-4565 |
