There is a few FX teams looking to purchase new engines and wondering what route they should go. Can I get some insight on where FX class is going with engines? I have heard rumour that they are thinking of going to to the CT 350. If this is the case all the people that bought a ZZ5 last year have to buy a new engine again? |

Yes this would be good to know. Would it be the CT350 or the CT350/400? |

So.. Rumor has it the ony diffenerce between the ZZ5 and the CT400 is the intake manifold, kicked out oil pan, and the valve covers. The ZZ5 and the CT400 has the excact same long block. |

From my understanding the CT400 is a sealed engine and would be the way to go!
I'm not a racer, I'm just a fan. I don't mean to stir the pot, But a few of my friends race and always talk about these 'cheat engines'. My understanding there is an engine builder that will sell a 5000$ FX engine for 12000$ and a 8000$ CX engine for 17000$. I don't quite get how you get these prices out of a 'stock' class. Can someone explain? |

the $5000or $8000 crate engine is not complete you can easily add $6000 more to it before it is set into the boat. a good set of headers will run a guy $4800 nowadays. +1200 Carb +$1800 labor bolt together +$1100 Dyno run +ignition, starter alternator, plug wires, +,+,+,
you may be light on the $12K and $18K numbers I think |

Apparantly the zz5 now has roller rockers and the guys that have them already can get them from GM as there was some issues with the power levels not measuring up to what was advertized.
Cheater engines have and always will be around in all forms of racing. There is always some morons that will go that way. Engine biulders are exactly that. They are in it to run a business and are not there as a moral compass for racers. Many have been caught supplying engines that are not legal in the past in other forms of racing but in our sport there has only been conjector and maybe a few blured lines. Not that it hasn't happened just no one has really been caught yet.
Engine biulders are very smart when it comes to making power while dancing around and interpeting the rules. Most tech guys are not going to be able to catch it even if they look at it.
Costs on a turn key basis
FX 12-15 k SBC
cx 15-18 k LS
lsx 18-23 k LS
A spec 42 k BBC
Turbine Alot more
These would be class legal engines you can add 5-7 k if your are one of those cheater guys.

You can now get modern street performance in a classic small block package using one of these Chevrolet Performance SP350 350 c.i.d. 375 hp base engine assemblies. They put out 375 hp with loads of low-end torque. In fact, they produce 405 ft.-lbs. of torque by only 3,600 rpm for a thrilling feeling of immediate performance. The engine assemblies feature new lightweight aluminum cylinder heads based on the proven Fast Burn design, with large intake runners, and 2.000 in. diameter intake and 1.550 in. exhaust valves. New beehive-style valve springs enable greater high-rpm performance and durabilityas the egg-shaped springs have less reciprocating mass in motion, require less spring pressure for greater valve control, and handle valvetrain stresses more efficiently.
Chevrolet Performance SP350 350 c.i.c. 375 hp base engine assemblies feature:
* Forged steel crankshaft
* Powdered metal connecting rods
* Hypereutectic pistons (9.6:1 compression ratio)
* Hydraulic roller camshaft: .474 intake/.510 exhaust lift, 208 intake/221 exhaust duration at 0.050 in.
*Fast Burn aluminum cylinder heads with 62cc combustion chambers
* 1.5 ratio stamped steel rocker arms
* Externally balanced
* 10 degree base timing, 32 degree total
* Aluminum intake manifold
* Chevrolet Performance valve covers
* HEI distributor
* Spark plugs
* Water pump
* Harmonic balancer
* Timing cover
* Oil pan
* Flexplate: 153-tooth, 12.750 in. diameter |

Just an update on this. I went to meeting last week, and was told the ZZ4, ZZ5 and the new CT350(Iron Heads) not to sure how this motor got chosen, but these would be the motors for the FX class in the 2016 worlds in the US. |

I was at SEMA last week and the current motors were on display;The SP350 is essentially the same as the ZZ5(same heads and cam;stamped rockers and 2 plane intake);The ZZ6 gets a different intake and roller rockers ....same heads and cam . As the ZZ4 and ZZ5 are no longer available it is possible that using CT350 (flat tappet cam and iron heads)would put those users down on power. |
