Had my boat out on the weekend, first trip to tuchodi lakes. Quite a challenge to say the least. The problem is that during my hole shot, I could only hit about 5000 RPMs when I normally max out at 5600. The engine would hesitate and sputter somewhat for a couple minutes and then tend to settle down while cruising. Brand new fuel filters, but changed it out anyway, just in case. I do admit to forgetting to open the vent on my fuel tank on one side and noticed it was all sucked in while re-fuelling. However , the problem exists no matter which tank I draw fuel from. Is it possible that my lift pump may be the culprit. I know the 200SJ is notorious for lift pump problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Change the fuel pump first. They are VERY prone to failure.

P.S. Where are the pictures?!

Appears the fuel pump was at fault. Can hit 5500-5600 out of the hole no problem now.

Did you use the Merc fuel pump or the cheaper non Merc.
Looks like an item a person should have as a spare.

If you own a sportjet, you should have a spare fuel pump. I have seen so many fail, it's ridiculous.

what is the NAPA part # and price for this fuel pump.
I am sure that I need to have one for a spare.

Is the fuel pump the same for all sportjets?
mine is a 240, does it use the same e8012s?

Went for a run this evening and the problem resurfaced. Not as bad as before but still bounces around a little bit. Don't know where to go from here. Gonna change the plugs, can't see it hurting any. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of years ago I ran into a group on a rescue mission for a 175 SJ. Symptoms started out intermittent and then finally they had to leave it. Turned out to be a stator I believe.

Last night we performed a fuel pressure check off the vapor separator test valve and gauge showed 45psi (spec is 41-45). Changed the plugs and went for a test ride. Engine pulls 5800 consistently and fuel pressure remained constant throughout. Looks like it was a combination of weak fuel lift pump and spark plugs.

I had a very odd stumble issue last weekend similar where the boat ran and started very very reliably but had some irregular throttle response at times. I'd sunk mine a few weekends before that but had it running 'perfectly' the next day. I had already changed all filters and new gas.

The other night I ran 5 gallons through it with Mercs injector cleaner and while it did stumble for a few minutes at the beginning it seemed to go away and is fine again. So maybe dirty injectors????

I'm going to test mine again tonight, with more injector cleaner, to make sure its reliable before hitting the river this weekend...

Well now you guy's have got me all paranoid. I did some calling around and the NAPA part # is indeed the E8012S, it's 140.00 and the Merc part is about 260.00. For the 140.00 I better put one in the boat for a spare, because I will never hear the end of it from the little missus if it ever fails Rolling Eyes
