World Jet Boat Expeditions Heads for the Northern most Tip of Australia - Cape York
World Jet Boat Expeditions is about to embark on our 6th International Expedition navigating rivers of a foreign land. This time a better known land closer to home, but we are not certain that this will make it any easier.
On the 19th on May the advance party will head for Townsville and the local yard of Townsville Cranes where our 40 foot shipping container awaits us, when it left New Zealand the 4 Hamilton 141 Jet Boats were well packed on our well tested rack and stack system. For the first time ever we have had to accept the border control at the port of entry to Australia, in this case Australian Quarantine inspection services service, AQIS, required the boats to be removed and inspected before entry clearance would be issued. Its a delicate process getting 4 Hamilton boats into 1 container and we have practice so there is already an element of concern as to how well the staff on the Brisbane wharf have repacked the container for its onward journey to Townsville. Or even whether all our spares made it back into the container,
Our contact at Townsville Crane has had a peek inside the container and tell us all looks in order but we won't rest easy until we see the boats ourselves next Tuesday .
The boats are well travelled, one has been on all 5 previous trip with the other 3 having participated on 4 previous expeditions. However this expedition closer to home isn't expected to be any easier, the Cape York Peninsula in North Queensland is known as the holy grail of Australian 4 wheel driving and home to some of the world biggest Crocodiles, Crocodiles commonly known to be longer than our 15 foot boats. There's a clear wet and dry season, in these parts, rivers are known to raise quickly and roads become bogs in a matter of minutes.
We will post regular updates as the trip moves north starting on the 20th or May.
New website will be filled with content soon.
