Does anyone know whether there are any
issues involved with buying a used boat privately from someone in BC to bring back to AB? This would be in regards to registering, licensing, Taxes, whatever.

You should have no problems going from BC to AB ;If you try and go the other way there is 12% tax and you will need an original registration to get the trailer plated.

I just went thru this scenario 3 years ago when I bought my used JB boat in BC from a private seller and brought it back to Alberta. The BC Govt will nail you for the 12% tax once they find out that the seller has deregistered the boat and the new buyer has registered it - they have up to 4 years to "nail you for the 12%". I fought for 6 months to find a way around it but I lost. They found me 2 years after I bought the boat.
Google file "pst108". This will tell you all you need to know about the friggen BC boat tax law.
To get around the tax pain issue - have the seller deliver the boat to the AB border side and have this written on the bill of sale. The BC Govt also has the right to ask for proof that the seller has receipts showing the expense for proof of delivery. Its a pain in the arse dealing with the BC Govt and their friggen tax laws. Don't forget that this also includes the boat trailer. I wish I would have known all this before I bought in BC.
PM me if you want to talk about it more.

Thanks for the replies. Thought I had read about a similar case a while back, may have been you? In any case, glad I asked. That would be quite the rude surprise when they come calling for their 12%! The Basturds!!
