Hello all,
I had the pump adapter gasket to powerhead fail when water froze in top of pump plate this winter,as the weep hole was plugged.
Pulled power head and replaced gasket and put boat back together.
Replaced pump & stator oils, water separator, in line small fuel filter, fuel filter after lift pump, drained all last years gas, filled with new premium, fresh impeller and sleeve while I was at it.
Went for 1st run on river of the year, and boat seemed to run good, but not getting over 4960 RPM?
I was starting to wonder if new impeller had lowered my top RPM, but then towards the end of a 2 hr run the boat snapped to life for about 1 minute getting full RPM. Now I know for sure something is wrong....
I then took air box off & cleaned spotless, cleaned & inspected reeds & reed plate spotless and no visible damage.
Added Mercury Quick Kleen into gas and went for another run.
For first 5-6 minutes off launch it ran flawless at 5650 RPM. Then stumbled briefly a couple times, then back to max RPM of 4970???
It has been hooked to a computer scanner and came up with no codes.
I am completely stumped and frustrated.... 2012 motor with 114 hrs...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Woody |

I agree with Repo, my brother brought me his 240 SJ, it was doing the same thing. I replaced all 6 plugs.....Problem solved! for some reason SJ eat plugs and fuel pumps. |

Yes, you will have to pull off the exhaust manifold, that's fun all by itself. I found a set of those "S" shaped wrenches worked well for some of the bolts. |

Check the connections to the coils, bumped one a couple years back while doing a plug change and it gave me grief for a couple days. I have a reader and I had to hook it up and run the boat and when it acted up I was able to see the fault. #1 coil pack, worse one to get at near the bottom. Reached down and pushed on the connector, "click" no issues since. By the way, you are pretty much due for plugs at 114 hrs., depending on how much boating you do and how far off the beaten track you like to go. Good luck, I'm due for plugs again soon, hate it!! |

Thank you all for advise.
Well all the plugs looked the same and in alright shape, brownish, but not oiled over or anything, but I changed regardless as I was there. The only problem is the expansion chamber gasket did not come up in one piece, and now I have to wait till Monday for a Courrier to bring new gasket to carry on....
I will check all coils are plugged in.
Starting to believe a faulty coil... |
