oh great my pump is buggered! i have been doing some fine tuning to my pump and noticed today that there are tons of cracks in the bottom area of the suction piece! it looks bad and now i know why i always had a water leaking problem. so what should i do here short of buying a new pump. it is a mystery pump with unknown hours since rebuild so my thought is to send it to one of the reputed lake boat guys for a total rebuild but i am weary of the lead time and CO$T! any suggestions? ~g
ps anyone have a pump guru out west?

take it to a good TIG welder, he'll weld it up for you no problem

hey wait a minute, i am a good tig welder! i almost forgot! (i wish i could actually) i guess thats the way, theres so many cracks i just figured it might be more weld than intake after i was finished! i guess thats better than a new pump since i am broke! any idea what could cause this? should there be a rubber insulator between the pump and hull?
thanks ~g

Excessive cavitation and running over gravel bars will do it.

very funny. ya this isnt quite that advanced of case. however something like that would seem more likely when a good portion of the casting is spider cracked and leaking water!
QUESTION: any concerns welding it up>? should i surface grind the flat base after welding? should i clamp it to a plate before welding? (this would make welding a bit harder of course.) given some of the deep water i boat in i would hate to sink because of this!

G man. I'm down in Cali so I don't know any of the NW or Canadian pump guru's. Down in So Cal there is a guy named Jack, I think he run's a shop called MPD. I've never dealt with him but from the people over on the hotboat forum, he's the best, and a straight shooter. That being said, I'm sure he's not cheap. I don't know if he has any white water pump building experience. There are a few other well known guys that are supposedly good who you can find on the HB forum. I'm sure somebody on these boards knows somebody just as good who is closer to you and actually has some white water experience. Let me know if you need any help coordinating with any of the CA shops, most are in Socal but I run down that way pretty frequently to see family-Aluminum Squirt

That's cool. Hope the welding works out for you. ugly = grinder.
Its great to show people from "out of town" how to drive a real boat.
