Has anyone had any success cutting down the noise of a sport jet in the boat? |

Line the engine compartment with some sound absorbing material.
Carpet the hull from the floor up.
Add a piece of rubber to the swim platform.
This piece of rubber dampen the resonance and make an incredible difference.
I got mine quiet enough to actuality talk. _________________ You are not lost if you Don't care where you are |

Thanks. I ordered some soundproofing material to do the engine bay and I'm trying to source some marine carpet. The rubber mat is interesting. What did you use and how did you fasten it? |

You don't fasten it. I used some rubber that is about 1/4 thick.
just cut 2 holes in it and take bar off the and stomp put it
on the 2 uprights. Replace the bar and the rubber mat stays put and absorbs the vibrations. _________________ You are not lost if you Don't care where you are |

The rubber mat is about 14x20. It fits nicely between the swim platform supports _________________ You are not lost if you Don't care where you are |

All of the stuff above helps, also here are few more things:
- Put a rubber sleeve (I just used electrical tape) around your EZ Clean springs to dampen vibration
- I didn't do this when I had my Lynx but it was next. Remove the muffler boxes off the back of the hull and pipe external mufflers out to the edge of your swim grid. It lessens echo under the swim grid I've been told. Hang the mufflers from the swim grid with rubber mounts.
- block all noise travel paths from your engine compartment. Mine had a rear deck that I blocked with styrofoam or even rags to make sure the engine compartment was isolated from the cabin.
- Pull your floor and put weather stripping or something similar on the tops of the stringers
- I had an insulating blanket draped over my engine as well as insulation throughout the engine compartment
- Before you carpet the sides lay some of the dampening sheets used to deaden vehicle panels for big stereo installs. I got mine at Audio Concepts in Grande Prairie. They are adhesive on one side.
I can't tell you what works and what doesn't but any sound deadening medium or blocked path from your engine compartment will help. I relentlessly tried things and whether I mentally convinced myself it worked or not I thought it was better than when I first got the boat.
Best of luck! |

I forgot that I had blocked the path from the engine compartment. I also forgot that I wrapped the springs. I used a sound level meter. Every little bit helps. When I got to the point it was tolerable I quit doing more. I think with even more time and experimenting even better results can be achieved. _________________ You are not lost if you Don't care where you are |

I worked on them motors for many hours and the loudest noise came from underneath,
check under the boat and make sure that the intake is not touching the hull as it will transfer noise like crazy , i removed about a 1/4 inche all around that steel horseshoe , so it does not touch , u will be amazed
good luck |

Great ideas guys. The product I got for the engine bay is from dei http://www.designengineering.com/category/catalog/boom-mat-acoustical-products/under-hood-thermal-acoustic-lining
I'm going to try carpeting the sides without the soundproofing underneath. I have found a lot of those materials to be really heavy. Definitely going to do a Mat on the swim grid and I might try a piece of rubber hose around the springs. My boat is a 16' lynx with a 240. Mufflers are in the sides of the engine bay and exit out the back of the hull. Has anyone tried different baffling? Plan on wrapping them with exhaust wrap. I had the clean out apart when I did the pump this spring and I put a strip of foam weatherstrip around the outside edge before I re-installed it, I will look at the clearances though. |

Other suggestions I've had are baffles under the floor to stop the noise from carrying forward below the floor and echoing up the front. ( he used hanging pieces of carpet to block the noise but not any possible water.) and a curtain under the dash to block more of the noise. |

Has anyone tried moving the blower exhaust from the top to the back of the boat? I'm sure that is why there is so much noise especially if the top is up. I think that'll be my next move. I lined the swim deck with rubber and put weather stripping on the dog house. I'll be closing the compartments from the back also to cut down the noise from there too. |
