This A-spec engine was dynoed last week then taken to be fit into a boat to test the oil pan clearance.
Engine was returned and fully disassembled to inspect all the parts.
After the inspection it was reassembled and redynoed and tested with the external parts tested,EG oil system, carbs, ign, headers & fuel system.
We are very please with the first stage of testing and the #s are higher and broader then what we were shooting for, also the condition of the internals.
More important is the repeatability of all the tests.
The next stage is to run it in a full race, and assess the engine post race.
If all goes well,we will start building & putting them into boats.
There are 4 more to be built this year.
Thanks

This was an open dyno session and we had racers come and watch the engine run.
They were part of the learning curve, and how we were going to run the fuel, oil & cooling system.
We made a total of 19 pulls, we worked the engine with sweep tests and steady state.
The final pulls were done back to back with great repeatability.
Our final goal was to have a safe tune up with the most amount of ease for the racer.
We worked the tune up for the different DA of the rivers we run.
All of this is on the dyno sheet.
Our parts man is going to post the dyno sheet with all the info on it.
The test is great data to compare the #s on the same dyno.
We graphed A class 470,FX,CX,Unlimited,LSX & pleasure boat engines to do a direct comparative test.
The original goal was to make 680 to 700 FT LBS between 5500 to 6000.
We are very pleased with the final results.
But as we all know the final test is how fast it will push a boat at the DA.
The goal was to be at a min of 115 MPH as the racers asked, with reliability.
Thanks for asking for the dyno sheet.
We sent it out to some racers 1st that could not attend but have deposit on the engines. Were all working together to make this work.
There pleased and now we can release the results.
Thank you.
Louie

As requested, numbers!

With the last race for the year done the engines lived very well for the last two races or 380 miles of racing. Louie’s finished the Whitecourt and Taylor 200 race without missing a beat. But I had an electrical issue in the boat, not sure what yet but lost spark, engine is fine and solid and getting a good looking so I can send it to NZ next week.

Both boats run about the same speed at 114 up and 120MPH down on the weekend Louie’s has more set up time on it and maybe a little faster as he seemed to be catching me on the open sections of the river, but I had better starts. I had a big water leak in the boat on the Sunday downstream leg that we think caused my electrical problem, and cost me time.

Thanks to Louie at AMS for all the hard work and dedication to make our sport better. He has spent many nights and weekends making these motors bullet proof. Now I just need to make the New Zealand boat that way for 700+ miles.

Here is a update on the status of the A-Spec engine.

After time testing with a wet sump, we have found that it was much safer to
add a dry sump system to these engines.
The results were:
Safer, more reliable, and also the power level has increased,
as you can compare the dyno sheets.
The cost increase is min for the positives that are gained.
They also can be reverted back for resale in different application's.
We have disassemble and checked Dale's engine
in preparation for its trip to NZ.
Our findings are very pleasing with a minor change to the exhaust
push rods due to the increase in RPM in better DA.
Both engine's were run at 6300 to 6500 all weekend with great results.
Only other change was a increase in fuel flow by means of a better fuel pump.
So far we have zeroed in on a combination that is making great power,
with great reliability.
We will be re dynoing Dale's engine on Monday or Tuesday then boxing
up for the next test which is a world race.
Then rechecked after to find its weak points and upgrade if necessary.
As we have said from the start all racers had input to the competition upgrades
to make the best we can. I would to thank all involved for that.
It is what the racers want after all.Everyone working together to help each other.
Our next step is to come up with a final cost, now that we have a recipe, the power and
speed we were looking for.
With the power level that we are at it runs the boats fast and safe with out having to
kite them out, much safer for the driver and navigator.
Its working out as a great option for A-Class. Support at the river, no tune up problems, no tech problems, no miss guided information.Smarter horse power per dollar with resale value.
Engines built & dynoed for what they were meant to do.
If anyone has any questions or input please feel free to call me,
Louie at 780-454-4411 ( AMS Engine's)
Thanks, and nice to see everyone safe after the weekend in Taylor BC.
1st time race,great job,great people,great show.
