|

Hi all. I run a 19 foot Alberta Special (from what I understand, basically a Nahanni) with a Berkeley pump and 4.3 v6.
I love the fact that I can run regular fuel, but want more power.
I've been really thinking of going with either a zz4, or 383. What's a realistic speed with this boat? I run about 42 mph at 32- 3400 Ish rpm with an A right now. Not looking for a speed demon, but more speed/ power would help.
What should I be looking at for an engine package that will live a while on regular fuel? (Crate or built?)
Thanks guys |

J-Roc,
Go with the 383. It is a great engine for either Berkely style or Hamilton pumps.
It has good grunt so you can run a AA impeller, get decent speed, lift good loads and not have to rev the snot out of it!
I have seen some 383's with respectable fuel economy, near 6.5 to 7 GPH. Try a race nozzle if you can! _________________ It was like that when I got there! |

Agreed there sandman and isnt the 383 a little less compression aswell being a little more friendly on the type of fuel you run. Ive had really good luck with the 383s ive run and would go ad far to say that the are better on fuel than the 350. _________________ When in doubt hammer down! |

Thanks so much for the awesome replies guys! Its amazing the wealth of knowledge that people are willing to share! Should a guy just go with a gmpp zz383? Thoughts on what to run for carb/ distributor, manifolds, etc and where to get them?
Any place for good pricing on gm crate engines?
Thanks again guys |

From all the different types of crate engine I have ever purchased, you need to call as many GM dealers as you can. I was surprised at how much the price could vary between them. It appears they can mark them up to whatever they want? |

So.... what 383 would one go gm has 3 different ones. looks the the 383HT 370HP 435TQ or the ZZ 425HP 449TQ If you look at the specs the HT looks to be suited for a river boat or a bigger boat for pleasure use.
But I don't know....anyone... |

I thought for a pleasure boat the HT 383 makes 400 TQ from 2500 rpm to peak 435 tq at 4000 rpm not as high strung as the ZZ. |
