I recently had a cooling failure from a hose rubbing on the bottom of a pulley on the front of the engine. Uckily I had the engine compartment open during startup and saw the spray. The hoses were poorly placed and I want to reroute them above the engine where i can see them. If the hoses are up higher and drop into the exhaust header will this pose any sort of problems?? I don't fully understand how the water flow works and I just want to make sure. Thanks!

As long as you keep the original water inlet to the exhaust system as is (that is, water coming into the exhaust from below) the water hose can come from anywhere.

So you're saying the hoses need to droop lower than the exhaust inlet?

I don't think the elevation matters, as long as the routing stays the same(inlet/outlet)the pump will move the coolant anywhere.

Alright I just wanted to make sure. It was an ugly set up with an unnecessary amount of slack in the lines. I just want to shorten them up and raise them but keep the routing the same

I noticed a couple of hoses rubbing on my engine components too. Only 8 hours on engine but can already see the wear into the rubber hose...was thinking of putting on some additional protection on the hose rather than re-routing.

Suggestions?
