I have seen this sort of question posted on other forums with no real answer but I am interested in Smoothing the bottom of my hull for Decreased turbulence. I have a few dents and a slightly rippled section just before my intake. I thought this could help with loading the pump or even just decreasing drag.

I watched a video where an aluminum race boat was faired using or bondo something to straighten out any imperfections and create the correct flow into the pump.

Has anyone done this and what do you think?

Hello.

I have done this several times with my race boat. It helps a lot. Unfortunately, bondo does come off if you touch the bottom.

The video you mention explains the principles very well. The best way to do it is with the boat upside down, but can and has been made with the boat on trailer.

If you do a lot of skinny river running, bondo will be short lived, but it is as good as fiberglass, and much easier to place.

As long as you don't hit the bottom, painted bondo can last virtually forever. I mean, for lake boating it's excellent.

Also, you have to do some prepping before applying Bondo. Mainly scratching off paint and having absolutely no grease or solvents in the surface. But a wire wheel can do this with little effort. Good Luck.
