ive just brought a sportjet ealge 17ft 240.
the temp gadge isnt working,i cant find a blown fuse,where about is the sender? and fuse for these plz

Top of the heads there should be one. My 240 had the smart tach, one plug in each head

thanks,yes mine has same tacko,asked old owner today about it,he recon the shop tested it and its swt,but where the sender is ,it reads cold,i dont think thats right,tacko should be around 160f wouldnt it,and mine dont look like it gets anything
was going to also ask, what mods can i do to get this thing flying?

Mine would run 30c usually, found that it didn't matter what side head sensor I had plugged in it would still read a temp, nothing is showing up on your smart tach? Or do you have a different water temp gauge

Not trying to sound like I know much of much, but the sport jet uses no coolant just straight river water so 160f is around 70c and that's to hot mine ran right around 30c running at a idle it would jump up to 45c and slowly drop
Down to 35ish at a idle. Hope that helps took a bit
To figure that out on mine figured mine was busted because of
The way it climbed so quick but it always ran like that and never had
Any issues.

As noted above the sport jet is not equipped with a thermostat and so runs quite cold.Mercury did this to minimize silt build up in the block...and if the aftermarket sport jet heater kit is installed with a thermostat you have to be careful not to silt up the engine.
If you have a standard marine temp gauge the range is too high for a sport jet ...Faria,among others makes a low range gauge ...mine runs at about 1/3 of the gauge travel....I usually warm up at fast idle until the gauge starts moving off the peg and then take off on plane

yes it has the smart gadge,not getting any reading i can see,o well solong as she dont cook!
that air filter and hosing to it is butt ugly,and ive just brought a 6inc fat by 12 inc long k&m pod filter to fit with new hosing,
also brought a air ram snorkle off a truck,i plan on fitting that onto the pod filter standing up. for r class racing.as i will have the rear seat and engine cover off for that too,recon there 20/30kg in that crap.
i notice too,the 2 stroke oil and the battie are both on the right hand side off boat and quite far ford in engine bay,so was going to set one on each side of motor as far back as posable,
il prob put front seats back a lil too ,do some testing for speed then think about wedging nozzle or save up for a scott ajustable nozzle on a morse cable.with me and the miss and 2 white bait nets she pulled 5800rpm on the way down the river on sat,need to take gps but didnt seem that fast in deepish water
any dos and donts?
i better sell me other boat too,15 ft sonic with a vh41 and colardo 2 stage

more pix,thought id add a pix of the plastic wedge in the back of unit,if i turn it over 180deg to get more boat out of the water(speed)
is this stock or somthing some one has added ?

hi guys.
so there must be a few of you here that raced sportjets in eagle hulls!!
so how about some info ,
i have 3 and 4 blade impellas.a few dif grills,and 2 nozzles
a wedge also,
wich blade did you find that gave you more top speed?
did you open your nozzle up or make it smaller? think both of mine are about 95 ml.
did you find where the sjs like sit for top speed? wedged with nose up? or trimed flat?
we still can run 2 smokes here ! and i want it to get tmax out of this thing,havnt gpsed it yet,i have it trimed down at mo for summer shellow stuff,but come race day il,remove about 30 kg of seating and engine cover,diet for a month lol,
spill the beans plz,as i know you guys dont race them now!

Have you given any thought on using an insertable 89mm to 100mm posi-nozzle. It would be very interesting to see what you would get for top end speed using an 89mm insert compared to a stock 96mm. Here is a photo of an insertable posi-nozzle and inserts for sport jets.

no i havnt tryed a socket type nozzle yet,as someone that was racing sjs in nz years ago recond the stock type gave more top end.i dont know tho.
at the mo its pulling 5800 rpms,wether i have 2 or 4 ppl in boat,so yea i mite pull nozzle size down a little,
have you used one of those nozzles on a sj ? in your pix.
if so how did it workout out,and wich make is it plz,

You would think like most race boats use a small bore nozzle to pressurize the nozzle to get high top end speeds. No I haven't used one of these nozzles I don't have a boat at the moment. It's a Exw posi-nozzle you can contact exwelding.ca for more info on this insertable posi-nozzle.
