first go buy the cheapest, crappiest beat up center console outboard boat thats runs well and a top of the line life jacket and white water rafting helmet.
go to the river with some buddies , have them wait down river of the rapid u will be practicing on with throw ropes.
Then jump in your beater boat and drive up and down it, starting from center of rapid and progressivly working your way to the edge of the beach with each pass.
once you have mastered that rapid, select another that is progressively challenging and do it all over again until you are fully confident.
then do it all over again at WOT.
or watch some Riggins Idaho race videos.

Seat time is the only real way to get your confidence. start off without the rapids and learn to watch and read water. start with the small stuff and work your way up. Plan on making some mistakes, have a plan on what to do when it happens. And yes you will likely put a few dents in the new boat.

always go upstream if possible on a new to you river. you can always stop and have a look going up if your not sure what your lookin at. don't forget to look back as soon as you can after getting through a tough spot and don't go to far if you got a lot to remember headed back and don't ever forget that the water will bite ya hard

Manage to get down to Chin hay 2 days in a row, 30 minute drive downstream, about 40 fish both days, 14 lb pike and 5 pound walleye
very tasty, only ate the biggest,
Boat launch is brutal, but was worth it, did a little damage to trailer 2nd day.
This is where the chinchaga river meets the Hay River, Excellent fishing
one set of rapids .
Excellent fishing.

Congrats at getting to such a nice location! Not sure how you are getting to the launch though. Are your pins in the right place on the pic? To get to the launch it looks like you need to cross a huge wet area.
