|
|
Light weight hulls and wings are a huge factor in racing today. With a boat flipping over a while back, it was recommended that they weigh all boats in the crate classes that have the potential to go over. I'm guessing in the near future the UIM may place a minimum weight rule for safety like NASCAR does. Here are some weights from boats that raced in Grande Prarie and Peace River, all input and suggestions welcome.....
(weights are with tools, jackets and helmets.....no drivers)
FX88.....1712 lbs
FX007...1785 lbs
FX44.....1640 lbs
FX04.....1665 lbs
FX33.....1700 lbs
FX55.....1750 lbs
FX57.....1774 lbs
FX83.....1837 lbs
CX99.....1670 lbs
CX121...1700 lbs
CX285...1710 lbs
CX177...1810 lbs
CX118...1810 lbs
CX204...1845 lbs
CX173...1900 lbs
CX146...1930 lbs
CX223...1770 lbs
CX266...???
CX281...1760 lbs
CX113...1746 lbs
CX114...1946 lbs

I assume these weights allow for the fuel.
Was nothing on TV last night so I have done a quick analysis on times from the Peace River (any anomolies in times removed) and have found very little relationship between weight and speed in CX and a slightly stronger correlation in FX tunnels(though still weak).
Where 1 = perfect relationship
0 = no relationship and
-1 = perfect negative relationship,
CX was only .13 and FX was only .33
I know a small statistical sample and not allow for crew weights or driving or the many variables that can occur but interesting with people trying so hard to save every kg.... |

Most Boats were weighed 'as is' after Leg two in GP. Mine had 11cm in each 23G tank if that helps. |

Weights play a larger role in acceleration than top speed. Boat setup is still the largest factor in acceleration and top speed although the lighter the boat the easier it is to get the boat to fly. _________________ Mark

Rob Chrunyk once told me the "KISS" plan works best for boats and racing. Spending all that time and research into lightening boats and going fast, now we gotta add rules to sandbag and level the playing field?!!! If your not comfortable kiting a race boat and prepared to maybe "blow over", Eagle and Bratt both sell some really nice play/family boats. Just my two cents. |

I do agree....mine was really bad on leg 4 of PR. The wind was crazy and with the canards up, it felt like I was driving a CR500. I played it safe and kept them horizontal or even down for the heavy rapids. They go over easy if your hard on the stupid pedal on a windy day! |
