Starts almost perfectly on the trailer, cold .
In the water, it's a different story. Very finicky to start .
Once it iidles at 900, runs at wot 5200, no miss, I go out for 20 minutes plus, with engine warm, engine will start back up normally, but stop and let it sit for 1/2 hr. No way will it even attempt to run.
Plugs are firing, but replaced with new ones they had 100 hrs on them
Cleaned carbs,
checked reeds
replaced both fuel filters
electric priming working
checked timing, ok
compression between 138 and 135
311 hrs on engine
found if i pull all the plugs, there wet
and after i reinstall them and prime the inricher valve, it will start and run fine. |

Have you looked at the stator? |

No, never did check the stator.
I put almost 8 hours running time since the last time this happened.
Not a problem. The only thing that changed that I can see is the weather cooled off a bit (from 33 deg. to mid to high 20's). Maybe it was vapour locking?? If ain't broke, leave it alone - I think is what they say... |

Most people don't understand how the "choke" works on these engines. It is not a butterfly style traditional choke. Instead it is a solenoid that drains gas out of the top carburetor. Hold the choke button in for 10-20 seconds. The choke on these engines works by the top carburetor releasing gas into the lower ones and causing a slight flooding. The longer you hold the choke button, the richer the mixture becomes. You may have some other issues surfacing to compound this such as the low speed stator coils failing intermittently, switch boxe(s) failing, plug wires, coils, trigger, etc. If it still starts hard, check for steady spark with a timing light. If only one side of the engine is sparking, that is from a bad switch box (CD electronic ignition). If one cylinder is affected, it is a wire, plug or coil. If no spark on any cylinders then likely a bad stator or trigger. _________________ Real boats don't have propellers!
