|
|
I just installed a set of used glenwood logs on my ZZ4 and noticed a huge temp difference on the 1,3,5,7 cylinder side compared to the 2,4,6,8 side. I cant even put my hand on the hot side and the cold side is fine. Any suggestions on where to start looking? I had water come out of the drain valves on the manifolds, I used all new hoses so theres no blocks, theres no leaks, the engine is staying cool, the ZZ4 has a few hard hours on it with a Holley 4779-9 750 DP and HEI ignition. Thanks for the help! |

Are these the exhaust manifolds??? Check for screw tightening, and if the gaskets are in good shape. If the gasket is gone on one side, that might explain the difference. Other than that, or what you thought about more water on one side, I have no idea.... _________________ Wisdom chases me, but I´m faster |

Andres, the manifolds are tight, wondering about timing or carb issues. Just scratching my head over this one. |

Have you checked water flow in the manifold hook up a garden hose in the inlet port and check what comes out there could be debris inside the manifold that reduces flow
same thing happend to me and the reduced flow made the temp rise in that manifold
the debris that i found in mind was lots of hardened sand |

Cross your water into the manifold from your outlet on the block. Extend your hoses to cross over from right to left. Run it to temp. If hot manifold changes from one bank to the other then you know manifolds are good. Then you go looking at motor side of things. |

Also you might want to have a closer look inside exhaust side of hot manifold. Too many trailer beer starts to show off how the motor runs without water will burn a hole through the inner wall of the manifold in no time flat. Did that drunk think once. Wayyyyy back when. A few things to check arron |

well thanks for all the help guys! I put a few hours into it today and I think its fixed. Changed the carb back to all factory adjustments and jets, tightened all the header bolts, cleaned the contacts in the distributor and chacked all the plug wires. not sure what did it but as long as its fixed its all good! |

I had the same issue. Could also smell hot antifreeze. Then it went away? Had been running some very skinny water prior so i think there was some debris in there that eventually worked its way out. |

mmmhh... Different jet sizes on the right/left side of the carburetor?? Well it's fixed now, so go figure... _________________ Wisdom chases me, but I´m faster |

The jets were a few sizes too big since I changed from 1 3/4" open headers to manifolds and the 4 corner idle setup was out of sync so its running a lot better now. Not sure if its really fixed though because I melted through an exhaust hose today so its not a water cooling issue its an exhaust temp issue.... all good, Ill get her figured! Thanks for the input Andres! |

If you melted the hoses off, your overboard water plumbing must not be sending the outgoing water through the manifolds and out the back.
Some systems use cold water coming in to cool the manifolds and get a little pre heat on the water before it gets sent to the engine.
After this water has picked up engine heat, the thermostat lets it out of the block where it then gets sent to the outgoing exhaust, usually at the end of the manifold where it is supposed to cool those hoses on the way out.
Depending on your type of manifold, there can be gaskets installed out of position that may be plugging off this outgoing water from cooling the hoses.
When the engine is running and warming up, see if you can spot any water coming out with the exhaust. there should be a little water bypassing the thermostat to feed the water into the exhaust enough to cool it, even if the thermostat is closed.
Hope it helps! _________________ It was like that when I got there! |
