Hello northern neighbors – my first post, here…

I’m a longtime Jet Boat photographer from Washington State. I’m sure my work is familiar to most. I intend, for the first time, to make the trek north to shoot the World Championships this year. I intend to arrive on July 5th, and shoot the 6th-9th. I’ll be doing it “on the cheap”; driving, tenting, and brown-bagging (I don’t attempt to make any money at this, rather, I, like y’all, do it for the love of the sport). However, before I make this involved (read “expensive”) of a trip, I’d prefer to make sure it will be worthwhile. Specifically, I’m mostly interested in “wild whitewater”, similar to that of ‘Time Zone’ in Riggins, ‘Dunn Riffle’ in Grants Pass, ‘Shanghai Bend’ on the Yuba, etc. Can I expect any of these conditions? Will anyone be willing to assist in identifying the best shooting locations, and possibly getting me there? (when not accessible by road) Any advice will be appreciated, and I’m looking forward to the trip.

There is definataly some interesting places. The most white water would be the run to/from Watino. The problem is that in order to view these places you would need to be ferried there by a boat the morning of the race. I am sure that that would not be a problem as many support boats go right there.

There is a couple of places at Grande Praire that people would call a little wild also.

The legs in Hay River will be very interesting..lots of rollers, rapids and rocks ! We are planning to run the Hay legs a few days before the race and scope out where we want to set up. Laughing

That's it?! Really?

Thanks to both of you who replied, however. That's exactly the type of info I need. Unfortunately, I won't be arriving 'til the 5th, so will miss the Hay River portion.

Was sorta hoping for a bit more specific support, though (“Sure, Mark, we’d be glad to make sure you’re positioned correctly for the epic photos…”). Anyone…?
