At long last, I bought my first eagle race boat. Now I need a roll bar. Where does one get one or do you just fab one up ? I saw some with a swept forward design and I think it said "er" on the side gusset ?
And what's with the wings ?
Thanks guys
Jay

Right on congrats!what boat did you buy?I'm sure the boys at eagle can fab you one up. if you plan on ever raceing in the USA better have a chromeoly one. 1 403 347 4565 is outlaw/eagle in Red Deer.or bratt in Sylvan Lake

ER would stand for Eagle Racing. OE could fab you one up, or you could PM TOP DAWG on here and get a blue print for the sweetest roll bar I have seen in a race boat. Lots of choices...some look cheesy, some look really badass! Function before fashion though!

the er is for Eagle Racing . you could build your own if you know what you want and can weld , or get Eagle or someone else who can.

we (outlaw eagle) have only ever used chrome moly and tiged every single one.its the way to go. we went off nhra rules concerning roll cages. theres a lot of good guidlines to follow for the most strength.

Thanks for all the input. The line from cage to bow and having the helmet under it makes sense ! I'm going to fab one up this weekend, I used build boats so I should be able to handle a roll cage for one !. There are some ugly ones out there!! The Eagle Racing ones look good, I'd like to see the center support though. I'm aiming for a two hoop cage with one center and two rear braces. I assume dom tubing as used in the rally cars will meet boat race specs ? Some friends of mine from the Subaru rally team are going to help me out this weekend so I think we'll be able to come up with something beefy and good looking. I'll check out the nhra specs as well.
Thanks again
J

There are some min specs for how close the top cross over bar needs to be above your helmet although I don't think that the tech inspectors are to fussy. Remeber if you go upside down it is nice to have a few extra inches to slip out between the hull and the ground also the ground is not always hard so the roll bar can sink in some. That being said they get real ugly real fast when you start going real high.

arthur 2, that is a sweet cage, reminds me of a cobra roll cage, maybe if I get a bender it would be a good winter project !
boosted, I had planned to have the main hoop 4"/12cm above the top of my helmet. Think that's enough ?
What do you guys do for communications ? I picked up some relatively cheap blue tooth helmet radios for $100 works till about 60 mph...

Helmets are to be two inches below the roll bar. As Boosted said this rule seems to not be enforced very strictly, but you have to remember it is your life and the life of your crew mate that you are trying to look out for. Whats your life worth......a roll bar that might be a little over built and odd looking, is certainly worth a human life.

UIM rule is helmet 4" from roll bar. UIM also states diameter and wall thickness requirements for c-moly or alum.
