I just got a 19" step-tec boat with a big block chevy. It has a dual axle trailer. I am curious what the boat and trailer weigh? can anyone get me a rough idea? Just wondering if my 2007 v6 Hyundai Sonata will pull it or if I need to go buy a truck?

Lots of people tow boats with cars. I probably will not keep the boat long because I want a new airplane. I don't want to buy a truck to tow a boat 5 times. Anyone interested it's a 2000 step Tex with a nice 505 chevy. Really nice boat with a backseat.

The combined weight of a 19 ft eagle boat on a dual axle trailer should be no more than 1200 Kg. (That's 2700 punds). (depending how much gear you've got, but the boat should be no more than 800kg)

Yes, you should be able to move it around with a V6 powered car. I have towed heavier boats with V6 cars myself.

I have an 01 Landrover with a 4.0 lt. V8 with only 188 hp and 250 ft-lb I can haul my 21' sport with a 383 with no problem.
Compared to your Sonata with about 225 hp and 235 torque, front wheel drive and a Maximum towing capacity for any Sonata is 1000 lb.'s (not recomended). Mind you, any self respecting Alberta Man would never hauling a REAL boat without at least a monster 3/4 ton Diesel. (Chevy's not included) Laughing

Im pretty sure your LandRover is quite a bit heavier then the Sonata and has a higher allowable towing weight, that would be my concern. Id check to see what the manufacturer recomends for maximum tonge weight and trailler weight for your Sonata and go with that. Trailler / boat / engine / fuel and gear surely weight in at 3000lbs, only my guess

Hahaha, I just wrote a big write up about how the Santa Fe may do it, but it could be scarey at the launch, then I saw it was a Sonata. Hahahaha. Don't do it. You will either cook the tranny in your car, or worse you will fry your breaks and kill yourself and or someone else. Don't even think about it.

My email is n2450y@gmail.com
I can send pictures of the boat if you email me. It is a 2000 gator (outlaw eagle 19" step-tec hull) 505 BBC with all the good stuff (4340 crank, billit rods, dart heads, 1050 dominator etc.), american turbine pump. I have not decided a price yet but I am thinking.[/img]

I may also consider selling the boat less the engine if anyone is interested.
