If a person is new to welding aluminum for small repairs or modifications witch would be easier to learn on. A mig welder or a tig welder. I have used mig welder on steel many times and like it but never tried it on aluminum. I have never tried a TIG welder. I am looking to buy and not sure what to get. any input would be great.

they both have their merits however if your projects are smaller then the tig is the only way. i use the spool gun to tack weld stuff and then go over it with tig to make it strong. most people dont start learning on aluminum with tig however. in my opinion the foot pedal is the only way to have a TIG setup. its easier to learn too. you cant make welds like this without a tig!

Nice wave weld the only bad thing about doing TIG in tight places
I have had somebody work the foot pedal due to the fact I couldn`t
move in the spot nothing like being drug out by your ankles.

thanks :D having the right equipment is a big part of it. i could not do that without a foot control, and proper setup.

I found TIG is a little easier to learn then a MIG. TIG does take way longer to weld things together but does a way nicer job. On mine I have a foot pedal adjustment and also a thumb control that attaches to the torch for those tight spaces.
