I know three people with Explorer's and they all seem pretty good and built well. Medium quality boat for a mid range price in my opinion. |

What is "Westcan" Explorer? Is this the same boat built by Explorer Industries in Edmonton? _________________ Life is Great. It's Reality that Sucks! |

West Can is/was a builder in Mission BC. I think they have gone out of business, or building boats under a different name.
Not associated with Explorer Industries in Edmonton |

Yes Alumaman your right they used to build out of Mission B.C. The guys name was Warren and he was originally partnered with Harry from Sidewinder marine. They built heavy duty boats with 3/4" bottoms. Do you know anything else about them? |

New a guy who had one, but dont know much about the boats other than they were built tough.
3/4" bottom to compensate for under floor fuel tank and no center stringers? Aluminum boats last forever but fixing old engines, pumps, or steering will quickly burn up more cash. |

My mistake the boat is actually a 1998 model and has a new 383.
And I have not forgotten the meaning of boat.

Yes I bought the Westcan I was talking about. I don't know if it was listed on Kijiji, I found this one on Craigslist Vancouver. Have had it out a couple of times on the lake and the family loves it. Have not hit the river yet as I don't know anyone to go with and I'm worried of running a ground and being stuck by myself to try and get the boat back in the water. Anyone interested in a run on the Red Deer that's willing to show a newbie the ropes a bit would be greatly appreciated. |

You got a good deal. I saw that machine on kijiji. good luck with it.
Get some polarized sunglasses for the river. It is way harder to learn by yourself, but that's what i've been doing. If you can find a partner, the learning curve will go way up. That said, I cruise up the clearwater all the time and some places i'm running over 6 inches, and nobody showed me anything. I just do it. |
