Captain Crazy as Felix pointed out rarely do these "NEW" projects work 100% out of the box, there is always some tweaking like in any other race package. I was not at the races however it was said that John Derry hit 128mph. New boat + different country + less than a day tweak time = John and this boat did pretty bloody well!

Knuckles we buy the tunnels from Outlaw Eagle and rig them up, much like before when seperate people owned each company and Eagle sold hulls to Outlaw to rig! BoomHower do you guys still sell Sports, Tunnels and etc to Gator boats what do you suppose they call them when they are rigged up by their own shop??????

just a few facts from last weekend
The tubine boat was not beaten by a big block chev.It was beaten by a great drive, by Chad Burns. To be fair to John, he had less than one hour seat time in a new boat that only hit the water three days before the race, by comparisson Chad and Willy have been working on their combonation for three years. Gord's boat twisted off the pump shaft, this had nothing to do with the tubine or the reverser box, unfortunately it damaged the gear in the box and we did not have a spare. These engines produce approximately 1300 foot pounds of torque at 6000 rpm and can see as much as 1800 for short bursts. We are already sourcing steal heat treated shafts that will solve the problem. These units already have a four to five mph speed advantage over the best gas unlimited boats. This is surely to increase as more development work is done.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm sure the worlds will be amazing as everyone will have lots of time to get dialed in and work out the bugs. Has anyone thought ahead if these things started smokin U class? Will there be a T class or am I thinking to far ahead?

A group of us talked about that the other day. Personally I think Unlimited means your aloud to do anything and should stay that way otherwise that kinda defeats the purpose. But that's how I think now and that may change in the future. I don't think there is enough of them yet to split and make two different classes either. Both of the options are still very competitive so the people running the V8's are still able to win races as shown this past weekend.

So what about building a bigger pump? If that's the weak link is it an option to upsize the exsisting pump to handle the extra HP? Push more water out....? Is there a impellor Diameter rule these boats have to adhear too?

The pumps are big enough we just need to beef up the internals. we seem to have solved the impellor problems by cutting back the leading edges .375 in and radiusing the corners. This hurts hole shot a little bit but top speed remains the same. The new pump shafts will have 2 key ways fixing that issue. A nagging problem that remains is that these boats generate so much bowel pressure that we can not keep grease in the tail bushings for very long. we are using srs 2000 shell any ideas for a solution would be much appeciated

Rob the typical TTO/TC seals used in the bowl are just standard double lip design seals, which are really not rated for any pressure (typically <15psi) - thus the reason they most likely installed the way they are.

You can get high pressure designed seals (eg. used for shaft seals in hyd pumps) and these are typically rated for pressures up to >150psi etc. I'll get ahold of our resident seal engineer tomorrow over at SKF(C/R) and throw this issue at him. SKF has a just brought a new seal cutting lathe machine into Edmonton, so should be no problem to cut a few if the sizes are not stock on the shelf.

I'll use standard pump shaft/bowl diameters & 6500rpm as a max rotation speed for calcs, we'll see what they have for options.

You could also change them over to a cutlass bushing then the problem is eliminated.

Stupid rookie question.....why the different pressure in the bowl with the turbine. I thought the RPM's were close to a gas job?

It is all about the power. The more power applied the more bowl pressure that you can make.
