How come the 1% take all the crap, but we silently clean up after all the yahoo's garbage. Maybe we need to make noise when we come across "other" water users making problems. Old saying "the squeaky hinge gets the oil" Rolling Eyes

As in all other aspects in life now a days, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO (out side of your home), you will be fringing on someone else's rights, good time, or patients, or just generally getting in their way. So whats a man to do?
Well for one, not get into a conflict, simple as that. Look the other way because all other options will give you way more grief in the long run. If someone gets irritated with what you are doing, where you are going or what you are saying, calmly stop what you are doing, don't get into an arguement and just leave the area, and never go back to where you aren't wanted. You may be dealing with a crazied person, and winning this little battle isn't worth it. There is no rule saying everybody has to get along. Sociate with people like yourself, and hopefully the different group will give each other space.
I know for myself, being a redneck jet boater, its hard not to say or do something, but thats what this world has come to. You can't please everyone and I found its best just to walk away.
I found the best way is to stay in doors as much as you can and go out only when you have to (one exception JET BOATING) and put blinders on (ear plugs work too).

hmmm looks like i missed something after my last post ,I hope this all gets resolved ,but really as jet boaters we do get alot of bad looks fingers pointed our way and all that ,in the end all we can really do is try to respect other users space , can you imagine how we as jet boaters would feel if we closed a river to traffic to hold race and had some floaters or whoever that entered the course and said screw you its our river to we can do what we want ......its the same kind of thing with this issue ..

I am not saying what happened was on a closed course just trying to give an example were we as jetboaters might get our panties in a bunch

Did the kyakers have any signs , booeys, or any type of warning placed far enough ahead that gave sufficient time to turn around or stop to check out what was going on ? was he far enough into the course that he couldn't turn around? what kind of a score did he get?
10 years ago when we started going through the correct gov't procedures to put in a new launch in Rocky, we had a mediated town hall meeting with the canoe, and kyak clubs spokesman. part of their greivance was the Brierly rapids , where they like to play in the curls (looks like fun if your into the drowning thing). their concern was the boats not seeing them hidden down in the curl, half of them wear green jackets, and black helmuts ! anyway out of the meeting it was deturmined that the boaters were generally more educated as to the general use of the rivers than the other clubs, it was suggested that the paddlers wear hi visible jackets, put up signs letting the boaters know that some one was there,( similar to a scuba diver flag), if they were going to occupy that streatch of water for a period of time, and have some sort of sign at their launches with information as to how to deal with the other users on the river, anyone can rent a canoe or kyak and does not have to know jack, every boater must now have a licence, and in the back of their mind will rescue the canoers when needed. I have seen a few hi vis jackets , but no signs or warnings letting us know they are there.......no river etiquette ? whos guilty? maybe they should have to have a licence to boat!! I have been on numerous search and rescues, and have only seen smiles at that time

there seams to be alot of good level headed thinking here.too bad it's not so on the paddlers sites.they are advocating throwing rocks and doing whatever it takes to force jetboaters off their river.also hiding behind enviromental issues, saying the fumes from the boat choked everyone out for 15 min after the boat was gone.just glad i'm up north where the water is too shallow to kayak.lol.

It seems that the calpaddle forum is way ahead of us and know the situation. I checked out their forum, at one point, they had been very busy talking non stop about us jet boaters.
Not wanting to get in a dispute with them, but we should all know whats been going on and said about us.

Generaly, paddle guys are just people without the money to buy a real boat,,, a jetboat. They have been found to be a little on femineme side too!!! Shocked Cool I had a rock thrown as us about 13 years ago which caused an accident where laurel broke 7 ribs. Then the rock tossers scrambled up the bank like little fags, unwilling to help or at least call an ambulance. The next time someone throws a rock at us, I hope they are man enough to stand their ground and either give a beating or take a beating. It's totaly stupid throwing things at people just because you dont like the way they roll.
The best thing to do is just avoid each other where we can and give plenty of room where we meet. Pretty simple concept.
Rock throwers take note: Your life will change if I get hit.
It takes a certain arrogance to believe that your own point of view is so correct that that you are justified in destroying other peoples property, and, endangering peoples lives.

Has there ever been a documented incident where a jetboater has injured a floater?
Their fear of us is totaly unfoundedand mostly based on the lack of understanding of just how manuverable a jetboat is. Yes I agree that when you are protected only by a wet suit and at the bottom of a curl a boat looks very large. The facts are that we just don't have a history of endangering or injuring the non motorized crowd. The opposite is the truth, we have collectivly saved and prevented further injury on countless non-motorized river users.
We have always done our best to share the river, and even in a race event the river gets posted and patrolled but not closed.
The world of non-motorized river users has the same few people in it that any group does that gives the group a bad name. We have ours also.
I have had the threat of rock throwing in the Brierly's in the past also that went as far as RCMP involment. The RCMP advised the would be rock tosser that they would be charged if they threw any thing at a boat.
I hope the rock tosser in this event on the Kan with James gets charged with willfull damage and is made by court order to make restitution for the need repairs to the boat.

Greg

Yes Felix,,,,I DO recall that!!! Tough to forget.
Gary, I dont recall any wrecks involving a jetboat versus floater. Lake boats have more close calls I'm sure, as anyone can attest after a day on the lake. Paddlers have lost one guy this year went a misguided sole went over the Lumbreck Falls in the Crowsnest Pass just a few weeks ago. Not too sure how we can get blamed on that one. RIP to the guy that lost his life. He picked a dangerous sport to practise.
I know we have rescued several canoers on the North Sask and spent plenty time running around picking up all there gear that was floating down the river. I the one case, the guy got out of my boat and didn't even thank us. His girlfriend was real happy about the ride but he just sat there like a lump of shit (shivering like a little girl).
We were also called out to assist the Fish and Wildlife guys to rescue 6 girls (thats right boys, 6 damsels in distress) on the Upper Red Deer about 4 years ago. We found them and brought them back to their cars.
They had spent a night on the river with nothing much more than the clothes on their backs. I'm sure they or their parents wont throw rocks at us!!!
Felix - IFLL
Later - Gone boating.

Just got off the NS and Rapid transit found a very nice new paddle and picked up some more garbage probably from the same upside down canoe.
