I have a few friends in YK and am seriously considering taking the boat up there for a visit. They all have lake boats and do big trips across flat waters...... . But I would love to hit a river or two also....anyone know of some good spots, stops?

Hey guys.
By all means either myself or Sonny will give you the river tour.
There are not alot of rivers up here...we can go to the end of YK river(might have to jump in the SJ or else hit boulders) could stop at my cabin on the way for a quick bbq or something...do you have tentative time frames?
\More to follow have to run...work is calling.

Right now it's just a thought.....A couple/few girls I went to school with are up there and they talk about boating on the big lake all the time. Looks FUN, but would still like to try a river or two as well. Two of then just had new borns so I'm not too sure how much boating they will be doing. Been looking to get up there for about 3+ yrs now and going to see the lil' ones is as good as exscuse as I need. Going to do some more homework on the trip and I will come back with a few questions or a definite date. Thanks Vinny!

All of those pics of out on Great Slave Lake. The cliffs pictured are 170km out from YK...and the water is not always flat lol !
Pics are of Etthen Island
Note the elevation of the island..1000-1100ft and the lake is around 580ft ASL. Some of the cliffs are 1000ft and with the boat tied up the depth finder in some places will NOT bounce back...
Last year we were pulling up 10-15lb lakers from 140-220 ft of water

Here your thinking of hitting the k'nife for a trip, take my advise the boat is a must.I used to live there in the 90's fishing there is some of the best in the world. You can take the river up to where prosperous lake dumps in fishing good there, but that's the end of the line if i remember correctly unless you like to portage. but if you go to prosperous and unload there is another river up to Blue fin dam ( i think that's the name of it) may be a restricted river so watch for signage or fish cops whichever, i had a prop boat at the time so not sure how far you can go . prelude lake is another nice spot, big lake and nice campground, Reid lake is another nice campground and lake. If you hit the big lake (slave) watch the weather she can be nasty being from the East Coast I've seen bad chop and this lake can give it out if she wants to.Snow drift has some awesome fishing but its along go across the lake. By the way if you golf Yellowknife has one of the only all sand golf courses, people come from all over to play there. I still have a couple of buds there if there not busy they could probably hook you up with some areas I have forgotten about. Hope this helps.

Is their any boat launch closer to Etten Island? With a jet boat that is a pretty long one way trip.
