I recently purchased a used 2003 V-sport with 240 SJ and am servicing it and getting it ready to go. I removed the stator and it is full of grease instead of oil. There is a zirc fitting installed in the back. I had thought this was supposed to have oil in it? What do you guys think?

Also I noticed this boat does not have any of the annodes on the pump/nozzle/bucket. Does a freshwater only boat need them?

From new we replace the oil in the stator with grease because it displaces the water by filling the cavity completly, provides better lubrication and most of all there is no surprises for the customer the first time he or she removes the stator from the tailshaft an finds oil falling in your lap or pant leg. And no you dont really need annodes on a fresh water boat.
