I'm wondering where in the suction piece to drill in a line for a suction pressure guage? Where does it cause the least turbulence to intake water? I was thinking 1/4" NPT for a hole/thread size maybe?

Anytime I have seen them installed it was into the inspection cap.

1/4" NPT is good. Clean out cap, or if in the suction peice itself, then as close to the back of the wear ring as possible. Opposite the cooling water port.

That 1/4 braided stainless line that is used for hooking up NOX bottles works great as the pressure line to the gauge.

Blue #6AN fitting just visible on the right side.

to determine how much suction pressure your intake is picking up. You can see if your losing suction while cornering or when trying to "test and tune" a raceboat. IMO
