Noticed my temp. gauge reading about 225 - 250' Shocked and staying there while running. Is my thermastat not working? Whats a normal temp. for zz383 with a high temp. thermastat.

I never run over 180, depends on your thermostat and what kind of a cooling system your running.

Ditto ...

My ZZ383 sits at 175-180 all day. I'd be getting another gauge/sender etc to verify. And if that "is" the real coolant temp, I'd be concerned about your oil temp ....

Quote from the ZZ383 install manual (I tried to attach it as a zip but don't know where it ended up LOL)

"Thermostat:
It is recommended that the cooling system have a 180°F thermostat, part number 10202456. Also, use thermostat housing, part number 10108470, and gasket, part number 10105135."

This morning in the cool I checked my coolant level, think I may be low. If I need to add a lot more water and antifreeze, what would you recomend for a good quality antifreeze.
Thanks for your response.

I found some free blue stuff at work today too.
Thanks.

Sat. Oct. 3 ran engine in the shop at work, hooked water hose up to fresh water intake, and stuck another water hose into pump discharge. ran engine until thermostat opened up, at about 190'. She's working now.
Thanks again for all of your help. Very Happy

[I found some free blue stuff at work today too.
Thanks.

If you run the "free blue stuff", that stuff is already mixed, run 100% blue.
(If it is the same free stuff I get) Norkool.
