They are awesome! I've had mine for a year and it's saved many hours of pulling and prying! Great investment but pricey. I think the last one I got for a guy was around a grand.

How does it compare to the Capstan winch? Other than it being heavier and have a higher pull rating?

I have the capstan winch with the Honda 4 stroke from Quebec. It is pricey also. With 200 ft of rope it can get a boat out of most problems. As a person gets older it is amazing how heavy a boat can get. It is very compact and wieghs in at 35 pounds.

Wow, never heard of a Simpson's winch! Looks like a great idea! Has anyone tried one? I don't know if I'd be able to move my Nahanni though @2900 lbs dry and about 3500 lbs with 350 liters of fuel.

you don't have to lift it, just drag it through shallow water to water deep enough to float it.
I pulled a 20 ft Kenferm that was just barely wet with very little problem. Sure beats the other options.
