I know I wouldn't be any were close to competitive and the only chance at a win would be if everybody else broke. But still I have to ask.
Is the 16' rule mean the hull or the total length of the boat (jet included)?
And were does a guy get more info on the roll bar rule?
What kind of speeds is the average FX boat running? |

FCH,
If you can run 75mph in whitecourt, you will be where Special FX, Storm and the Nervous Wreck were running last summer. Actually, you will be running faster than the wreck was, but I'm tunin' like a mad fool as we speak!
Roll bar rules can be found on the site here somewhere, check under the rules for the 07 worlds. Chromolly tubing, front and rear braced, 2" above crews heads minimum. U.I.M. rules are what we go by. www.uimpowerboating.com check into the Jet River rules. Outlaw has all the info.
The bar was raised lots last summer with the airtime boys kicking some serious can! They are into the 80's with their light weight tunnel. We all have some catching up to do! There is reported to be a pile of boats coming to race FX this summer, talk is of maybe 15 or more!
For next year the word is to keep it running, finish every leg. Fastest boat means nothing if your limping home or looking for a tow. We have +/-600 miles to make over 9 days, anything can happen!
Put a roll bar in your boat, strip the interior of all un-needed weight, including the brass peeler poles and get on the crack ho' diet if need be and come out racing. No one is going to get rich at the sport but the competition is awesome and the crews are a great bunch to hang around with. There is talk of another race up north later in the summer too.
Most of all, "Chicks Dig Us" Ask the Bald Man, he knows of the phenomenon!
Best of all is the volunteers that make these events possible, they are the ones that need the most recognition and have become friends to all of us. Once you get the secret handshake down pat, your in! _________________ It was like that when I got there! |

watch out what you read about roll bar rules as the UIM has revised their rule set and aluminum roll bars ARE now allowed again. There are specific specs to which they have to be built however i.e. dia and wall thickness etc
I do not believe that new rule change, altho official, has been updated on their web site. (I could not find it)

Boat length...for purposes of the rules, its measured from the point of the bow to the back of the transom. The UIM minimum is 13 ft. but each National Association has the authority to make "more stringent" requirements. The Canadian rule is 16 ft for any class above Sportjet. The decision was made based on safety, boats under 16 ft were assessed to present a potential safety risk to the crew during River Racing.
Roll Bars... the 2007 UIM rules will allow aluminum. I can post the spec's if you want, but my advice, build a well designed C moly cage. UIM or National rules could revert back to Cm only.
Speed to be competitive... Sandman hit it on the head, don't worry. Just go racing. |

Well the little lady only comes in at 15' 8" or close to that so she needs a nose job (kidding) to be legal. I guess if I want to race I'm in the market for a tunnel.
Once again thanks for the input gentlemen. |

Airtime and Stoker still for sale, both successful FX race hulls and I think Stoker has a rear seat and engine cover for pleasure use.... might make a nice dual purpose boat and both need engines, if they can get the SBF formula figured out you could run your prefered power. _________________ Rick's Precision Machine

If you have a 15' 8" boat would a race officer consider this illegal??? It's only 4 inches and the UIM general rule allows for 13. (FX is NOT a UIM class, so it doesn't matter)
I would contact the race organizers on this, but my opinion is that you should get away with murder and be allowed with that 15' 8" boat....
Yes, I know I'm stepping into where I shouldn't, but isn't that what Fly-Fishing is all about??? _________________ Wisdom chases me, but I´m faster |

I'd bloody love to try my hand at racing. I know that it isn't possible to get it fast enough to be competitive but I sure would like to try. Not the worlds though. I should probably try walking before running.
I wouldn't want to waste the committees time though. I work the rigs and can't commit to time off. You know how the patch is. So it would be a shame to waste their time if I never made a race.
I was sure that the FX rules read 14' last spring when I was looking at buying my boat. I was lookin at the rules on the PRBA site. Did I get my wires crossed or have the rules changed.
Maybe I'll build a roll bar and just show up and see if I get turned away. |

You'd have a blast running the World race. Don't worry and winning. You are only racing the guy ahead and behind you. I raced that way!!! and it was a riot.

Did you race with your current boat?
That's still a hell of a time commitment. With my luck it would be the only week my rig worked the whole summer.
I'm not saying its outta the question. Hell all I have to do build a roll bar and put in harnesses. Spend a few G and I'll be set to get my arse handed to me.
Does every body start at the same time. All classes I mean. Cuz in current form the SP will be closer to me than I am to the FX.
Who do I phone to get actual info so I can find out what I don't know I need. |

Rules should be mostly posted on this site.
mass starts are usually only your class of boats or those close to the speed of your boat.
Do not worry about any of that stuff just get to the race. lots of people aren't going to touch the highest boat in their class but like you say you just gotta stay constant and finish every leg.
Look at Riggins last year Richard Grant was 4rth overall with a SJ!!!
UIM rules are posted in the worlds section be a good place to start. advanced program is due out soon

I contacted the committee rep Brian McGregor to find out if they'll let her in. We'll see I guess.
I'm having a hard time with the life jacket rule. Would anybody like to clear that up. What do you need. Are full suits like BLOWN INCOME had for sale a while back what I would need or???????????????? |
