I know this is early but me a couple guy's want to drop in Devon and hit DV(when the ice breaks).Wondering if anyone that does this often or even once before can tell me something about it.Can't see it being that skinny but maybe something to watch for??This or the Clearwater at Ft.Mac for our maiden voyage(overnighter) any input on that.....?as this is in the 07 plans as well.All I heard was it's got lot's of corner's and watch out for on coming traffic on the W/E's(clearwater) Shocked

Hey Arthur,
I have been all the way up from Edmonton to the big Horn Dam @ Lake Abraham.

Lots of water and pebbles Wink

in places.
Don't make the mistake of going north up the Brazeau! Big boulders and lots of em!

Get a map or GPS and "Lots" of fuel for the boat and people.
I usually dropped fuel at Rocky and Drayton. Lots of traffic lower end and at Rocky

There is fuel available near the river at Rocky. Westend Husky, retail and bulk, marked and clear. It is on the west side of the river at the bridge on 11A.
Also a convenience store and liquor store at the same location.

Yah hadn't thought about rocky yet cause that's probably another night.Being our first overnighter of the year we were just thinking about a school W/E.Couple guy's have kid's in school.How many hours to drayton?and rocky?How far up is the brazau?Is there anything exciting/cool that would be worth a visit.?new rivers are always exicting but wondering if there's any point's of intrest?How bout the clearwater......?i hear you can go right to the Sask border to some waterfalls....sounds sweet Very Happy

60 -Brazeau-Rocky
Never did much Clearwater
Did the Lower Red Deer all the way to Saskatchewan in buddy's boat.

Lots of scenery on that North Sask.
Lots of places 3 ways in and out, Jet boat, Helicopter and feet (lots of them)
Above Km are plus minus ,spell check wouldn't let me put the plus in Laughing

Dam is definitely upstream of Rocky (near Nordegg) and the Brazeau River is a tributary between Drayton Valley and Rocky.

Don't go anywhere near the Brazeau dam, that's a different trip!
Stay on the North Sask. if you want to get to Rocky.
150 gals was round trip for me loaded.(not to the Lake)

Little Big Horn Dam is another 90 Km plus- minus on the North Sask.
You can't get through to Lake Abraham because of the dam.
You need to watch for cables before you get to the dam.

The trip from Rocky to the dam is quite challenging but lots of fun.
No falls but a few "rollers" here and there.

Man your boat must be quite economical.
Somehow? with the fuel you carry, I don't think you would make it-Rocky to the dam and back.

I could be wrong but I don't think so.
Get some second opinions on that. Wink

i base those #'s on a trip I made with one other person and gear for only one night.(15lbs of beer) We made it to the "pelican hilton"80miles down and back without refuelling.Had extra can's and never had to put them in.Although...same trip w/four guys i had to add one can about 15-20 miles from the launch.It's a SBC(ZZ383) and if I put a block under the pedal it's right in line with all the low HP 350's I run with.Tank is 65gal so I don't fuel up 1/2 as much as my buddies.I was just thinkin DV for now but it sounds like it gets better the further you go.Still a W/E thing for now so would need some time est.(ex. 2-3hrs to devon 2 dv.......)if we were to go all the way.That may be a 3 nighter...CL

The use of the word (economical) was used in desperation and for lack of a better word compared to my boat, (read temporary insanity on my part) Laughing

I made it from rocky to the dam and back on 40 gal. just a day trip. really good day, except for some canoers.

My thoughts are that you guy's are leaning more to the DV-RMH/DAM for scenery and overall enjoyment.The devon to DV trip should still be pretty nice for a first of the season,seeing that it's only 1 1/2 hrs to the launch as opposed to 3-4 to Drayton.Will let you know how it goes....It will probably be on You Tube Smile
