|
Here is what we (AWJA in the US) are going with for 2007. These specs will also be posted on the jetboating.com MAIN site.
Ford and Mopar SB optional factory crate with downgrades. The current FORD 385 HP 351ci with changing cam and intake is a go. All of the parts to build a legal C351 9.0:1CR are still factory available. The current DODGE 390 HP 360 would require an intake and head swap. The 395HP/360 would require an intake and rocker ratio swap. A short block assembly is still available as are the legal valve size heads).

FX motor rules-notes of intent and clarification-spirit behind the rules
..
To allow GM, Ford and Chrysler factory built and promoted crate motors that are listed in factory parts literature. Yet allowing the opportunity to build a motor to the same specifications with existing or readily obtainable parts. The concept is to have reliability, repeatability and ready access in motors while trying to maintain parity and affordability. The concept is to have motors with about the same power levels within each class. The desire is to also allow different motors to be able to have increased participation. It is desired to have different manufacturers represented so as to allow spectators and fans to identify with different brands and their favorites and loyalties. To allow ingenuity and individuality while maintaining a semblance of order and parity. To promote the concept among those who spectate that there is an affordable, reasoned way that they too can participate in a fair environment and possibly have success.
No port work /modifications to any intake tracts . As cast means no modifying. Single carburetors, readily available from retail outlets. Hydraulic camshafts and lifters. Aftermarket camshaft specs as to lift, duration, lobe separation NOT to exceed each listed camshaft. Camshaft phasing is allowed. Able to run on pump gas to help keep costs in line-but can use "race" gas. The above build sheet is presented and encouraged to be filled out and submitted so as to ward off any surprises. The inspectors at any venue have the ability to make a ruling about anything that is not specifically stated. The gray areas if you will. Each protest committee is also able to act and react as is the AWJA board. A clarifying addendum can be added during the race season.
I THINK THIS IS CORRECT. HAVING TO POST INSTEAD OF THE WAY I HAVE THEM IN WORD FORMAT FOR INCLUSION IN THE 2007 AWJA RULEBOOK MAY MAKE FOR SOME ERRORS. THE RULEBOOK LISTING IS OFFICIAL.
The set I am going to e-mail Jesse for inclusion on the Jetboating.com main site should be the same as "rulebook"

Some interesting thoughts- The smaller inch BBFX motors would fit in "A" Class. The big inch motors could be run in Unlimited. Maybe a cam/intake/carb(s) change and you could be running "A" or "U" on the cheap. In a week long marathon situation there is always the old adage to consider "To finish first, you first have to finish" _________________ "faster, Faster, FASTER until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of DEATH"#163 "Tuff-n'-Nuff"

James aka Xerophobic-
Does any of the above make any of the wheels go around? or does "it" make it harder? Hopefully the above posting brings clarity to some of the "issues" and questions. The Salmon beckons....... THEN on to the Worlds. _________________ "faster, Faster, FASTER until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of DEATH"#163 "Tuff-n'-Nuff" |

A clarification on a possibly confusing point with BBFX Ford intakes regarding allowed single plane intake.....it was perfectly clear, to me, as I was researching and writing but I can now see where there might be confusion The "no air gap" refers to the dual planes. The listed ALLOWED single plane (M-9424-G429) IS an air gap/spider single plane. It is a Victor by Edelbrock. If a part is listed, it is allowed. If using a single plane- where it is allowed-(any non SCJ heads and/or stroke is less than 3.8501") it can be an "air gap/spider" because that is what the allowed manifold is. _________________ "faster, Faster, FASTER until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of DEATH"#163 "Tuff-n'-Nuff"
