I've always been kinda curious on what the story is on the sport jet power package.Looking for some input.....The reason being is one of my buddy's is ready to step into the jetboat world and want's to start in the 20-$25,000.He originally was looking for a 20-22' (High Windshield)Sport, but those are harder to find than a levelheaded fly fisherman.(had to say something...I read most of those post's and my conclusion is..... the Internet is a crazy tool for armchair arguing and bickering Rolling Eyes )Anyway...These are some of the things I've heard_____Remember all hearsay......

Lightweight(east to push)
More cab room w/less engine dept.

Expensive to repair and or replace
Harder to fix on the water
The pumps can't be accessed as easy to remove debris(twig's,fisheggs)
Annoying sound

Any insite from those with a friend that own's one or have experienced one themselve's would be appreciated Smile

Sport jets are usually limited by size due to the Horse power of the motor. As Outlaw says Horsepower is life insurance. A 20-22' boat would require more H.P. to get up on plane thus why they usually have a bigger engine. I'm sure someone at Outlaw would do better explaining this then me.
I run a 16' with 240SJ and I find it very good. The stomp grate makes cleaning the intake very easy and not much makes it to the pump as far as I can tell.
They are a bit louder but not that much in my opinion.
They are lighter which makes them nicer to push off a bar when you get stuck.
I can't see them being harder to fix on the water then a V8 if you know what you are doing as the are just an EFI 2 stroke V6 but I have never had to repair mine on the water yet.
I do believe the biggest sj that I have seen was 18' unless you get into the big twin SJ then you are talking alot more money.
Just my 2cents.
By the way those fish eggs are the hardest thing to get out of a pump Twisted Evil

Only one guy with a SJ?..... or just one guy with a SJ and opinion. Please fell free to remove your fingers from the mouse and place them on the keyboard. Smile Buddy has the bug real bad and now doesn't know if he wants to scringe on a boat or dump 60 G's+ and get one big enough for the family right off the bat. He's eyeing a used EDGE velocity but for the price they want he could almost afford a Cadillac...(Eagle).Any input on the EDGE brand?I know they look pretty good but have they been proven?

How big is his family? I like the looks for the edge but have never heard anything about them. I would tell him to take a few different boats out for a test drive and see which one he likes the best. There are many different boats and looks aren't always everything. I can fit 4 people in my boat very comfortably even with the doghouse cover and its only 16'. Tell him to load up the family and check out the boats. Cool

Something you could pass onto your bud. If he wants to take his family out in comfort, go for a 60k boat with a v-8. It will come with tops and a heater. The SJ engines don't provide heat for the cabin. Most SJ type boats are built for running skinny water and playing in the boulders.

Your bud needs to decide what kind of boating he wants to do before buying. Then go out and test drive some of the many boats available.

He's got one wife... Laughing that I know of, and two kids. This of course doesn't include the dog and all the necessary gear for a couple night's on the banks. His wife is the kind that would bring enough shit for everyone there. She also doesn't like the idea of being crammed, as he has made a healthy lifestyle for her, and now, she doesn't like the idea of downgrading for anything.I'm sure money isn't an issue, the question is if it's practical to dump 60+ on your first ride?I know my boat has a couple of "rookie scars" and I've been on the river for quite some time with the old man.His experience is minimal and it seems like the more you spend the bigger the first dent is gunna be Crying or Very sad

Sportjets CAN be equipped with heaters most defiantly. The little demo 15 Outlaw sport on our lot has one and it works nicely.

I would agree that you really need to know what you want to do with the boat before you can decide what model/power/hull suits you.

If he's looking at spending that much I'd have him come look at an E6. In my view its a nicer looking package than the boat you have posted.

Cheers

He does know exactly what he wants he just ran into a snag with no work in December so aborted the idea of buying one this year or instead, downgrading to something more feasible for the time being.I must say that is one beautiful boat but if my memory is correct it was $72,000.00 with a 350.If paying top dollar he would choose a 21 sport(HW)with a closed bow and a supercharged 6L.(He's gotta be faster than mine)for that much coin Smile .Curious (XERO) when the order cutoff is to have a new one built by is?Maybe you can ask Terry for me.Hate to see open water and your first boat still under construction Crying or Very sad

Delivery is usually "about" 10 weeks from deposit for standard builds.
Of course springtime can get a little more crazy and that time can be pushed back. Its a dynamic thing and varies depending on whats in the mix for us at that time i.e. custom builds etc
If you want your boat delivered in October we can build it alot faster Wink
That quote sounds high for an E6 unless it was very heavily optioned

Cheers

I have spent a lot of time driving Edge boats and also own and Eagle. All things being equal I would pick the Eagle 10 to 1. If you want any more info you can send me a PM

Haha I think that may have been my fault being a bit overzealous with the size of that E6 picture. Ill try to re size it.

Alaska you're really starting to prove to be one of our better "unpaid salesmen" but I already sent you some free swag you don't need to keep it up lol! haha (much appreciated by the way, did you get my package?)

Cheers

Since our forum, unlike so many, does not dictate a max size for pictures they will "pull" the rest of the page out with them. I shrunk the pic size and voila the text isn't in your neighbors yard anymore haha

Cheers
