SERVICE NOTICE, JUNE 1, 2016
At the 2016 World Jet Boat Race an accident happened which resulting in substantial damage to an Eagle boat, and injuries to the crew. Fortunately, their injuries seem relatively minor, and as long time friends and clients we wish them a speedy recovery.
It appears that there was a failure of the pin or pins holding the diverter of the race jet nozzle which meant the driver lost steering control. We are having the part analysed to see what can be learned. Outlaw Eagle recommends that all owners who use this nozzle and plan on using their boat in severe service and/or racing include this as a checklist item on their pre-use inspection. Any indication of wear or binding should result in immediate part replacement.
We have made a couple of improvements in the last 4 years to make a stronger and better mount for the pins. However due to this failure we cannot say that these nozzles should be used on high performance boats without reinforcing the pin mount.
We now have a reinforcement for the top and bottom pins, we can send them out to you to have welded in place or you can send your nozzle back to us for reinforcement. We will have new nozzles with “billet steel” steering pin/nozzle assembly available very soon. We do not recommend anyone using there nozzle without reinforcing the pins.
We also recommend that when using a “race nozzle” on all boats that we have a dual cable/rod system and that they are adjusted and checked after every change.
For anyone planning on racing we recommend that the end user regularly inspect the entire boat(s) and use their discretion as to the condition and functionality of all the components for their particular purpose. Every effort has been made to research and develop these products using the highest quality materials but no matter how carefully manufactured and tested we cannot anticipate all the situations which might affect a component’s life. It is the responsibility of the end user to accept all accompanying risks understanding the possible consequences and potential dangers arising out of or connected with racing or other severe service.
Please be safe and keep your equipment in good working order.
