Hey guys, picked up an older boat as a work horse for my bear hunting operation and took it out for its first run last weekend. Boat is a 24' custom built in a farmers field with aluminum stick, so the welds look like crap but holds water! The boat is heavy for sure but sits decent in the water. It has an older ( 1994 ) 454 XNJ Kodiak marine with only 72hrs on it ( 950 LBs )and a Jacuzzi WJ12 with the same hours. the boat empty will do 62kph at 4800rpm downstream, with a 3000# load will get on step and hold steady at 4200rpm and maintain about 40kph. Here are the issues, over 57.5km loaded going down stream and empty upstream this beast used 220 litres of fuel. What can or should I change to improve fuel economy? forgot to mention boats bottom is only 69" wide and is flat from back to 16' and then starts to V towards the front. |

About all you can do is dial in the carb, and make sure the impellor/ring clearance is minimal. After that you will start to spend a bunch of dinero to make improvements. |
