Hey guys, I've been lurking in the sand around here for a few years and finally joined the forum. I've got a 19' Thunderjet Envoy with a 175sj, I usually run merc oil but it's tough to find in a small town. I picked up a jug of shell nautilus and was going to run it but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with it?

Thanks

Merc Quicksilver is a better quality of oil. That being said. My dad, myself and all of my buddies have run Nautilus for yrs. The only issue we've had is running it in the fall in the 175's. It tends to gunk up the jets in the carbs. Where the Merc oil doesn't, due to the synthetic blend. We have 600 hrs on the one engine running nothing but Nautilus.

If you are not running Merc Premium Plus oil you should at least run full synthetic from an aftermarket brand:using lower quality oil does not immediately show up as an issue but will reduce engine life....especially in cold weather operation.(your 175 has a small gear driven oil pump)For the guys with 200 Optimax units it is VERY important to use correct Opti oil as
they run on a lower fuel/oil mixture for emission control.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll run this jug and then stock up on Merc oil next time I'm in the city.
