Was looking at pump and took a peek up grate and don't remember the shaft on the engine looking like this. Is this how it should look or am I in for a bearing change out? Thank you!!
It looks normal. This is the cotter key in the pump shaft that holds the spring preload for the mechanical seal.
If you are concerned about a pump bearing, remove the two wing nuts that hold the inspection hole cover on, reach down, grab the pump shaft and check for any play fore and aft.
Also any grinding, resonationg, melted grease running from the inside, the housing gettin hot or even a squeal is sign as well of a failed bearing
